		SMARA was created in 1971 to bring together the interests of the Schenectady Museum and community amateur radio operators who were using the museum's radio facilities.
		SMARA operates a complete amateur radio station at the museum under the callsign "W2IR".
		The purpose of the museum's radio station is to display, demonstrate, and teach the art and science of radio communication to the public.

		Dating back to the heady, progressive Governor Jerry Brown days of 1975, it has two functions: in a concession to mining interests, it identifies mineral deposits statewide and protects them from development; but, more important, it requires all active mining companies to submit a site-reclamation plan to their city officials.

		County compliance with the SMARA first arose when James and Toni Johnson, neighboring residents of Weber Creek Quarry in Lotus, filed a complaint against the county to the SMGB.

		The text asks that those responsible be brought to justice and for "an end to harrassment of the young women of the town" by the Moroccan security forces.
		Saharawi widows of Goulimine and young unemployed women have been holding a sit-in since 10 December in front of the administrative offices of the town to demand that their social grievances be dealt with and also to "express their solidarity with their compatriots who have suffered arbitrary arrest in Smara, El Ayoun and Assa".
		Mohamed ould Selma ould Rabani, born in 1983, was abducted in Smara by police, who continue to pursue alleged participants in demonstrations on 17 November, creating panic among young Saharawis.

	King Mohammed inspects socio-economic projects in Smara
		Morocco's King Mohammed VI, accompanied by his brother Prince Moulay Rachid and his cousin Prince Moulay Ismail, visited Friday the provincial hospital of Smara and inspected several social and economic projects in the city.
		At the Smara Hospital, the king handed medical equipment supplied by the Mohammed V Solidarity Foundation and toured the various wards of the 67-bed hospital, built in 1989.
		During his stay in Smara, the king also inspected other projects dealing with roads construction, housing and power supply.
