 The Dead Zone
To take it slowly; we have the length of the series to really explore this character’s growth, from who he is at the very beginning — plain old Johnny Smith— and see how he grows as a character as he goes on this extraordinary journey into a new kind of existence.
The power of the latter is still felt to this day, a point driven home by the response a seven-minute trailer of a TV series version unspooled by the UPN network at this year’s “upfront” garnered.
I think that The Dead Zone movie is dark for television, and one of the goals that everybody agreed on was that we needed an accessible Johnny Smith; someone a little easier to relate to who wasn’t quite as dark as Christopher Walken was in the movie.

TV Reviews: New shows run gamut from crude to shrewd
Some of those reactions are entirely believable; others are TV cliches and thus unlike the way people behave in the real world.
That process has been covered in plenty of local TV news reports, but other segments are more creative.
With Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith as executive producers and with the show based loosely on their lives -- Smith had a child by his first wife before getting a divorce and subsequently marrying Jada -- "All of Us" chronicles the making of a blended family with sensitivity and with some humor.

Writing in his weekly column for the Daily Mirror, Lewis-Smith said that the characters, which first appeared in his late-night Channel 4 show, TV Offal, can no longer be used after the estate of their creator, Terry Nation, refused to grant him permission to use them again.
The characters, either "crude, tasteless and offensive, or a splendid parody of both the Daleks and of gay cultural stereotypes," according to historical TV website HTV, were to resurface as animated characters.

Movie Database - [TV Guide Online]
Hoping that the audience for cartoons about Greek gods has not already been satiated by Disney's HERCULES (1997), the folks who produce the live-action TV series "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" and "Xena: Warrior Princess" have repackaged their characters in an action-packed and occasionally charming, but very poorly animated, straight-to-video feature-length film.
Hercules (voice of Kevin Sorbo) is the legendary half-man, half-god whose mission is to avenge all wrongs, including those committed by his cruel, impetuous godly relations--namely, his father Zeus (voice of Peter Rowley), and his half-siblings Ares (voice of Kevin Smith), Artemis (voice of Josephine Davidson), and Aphrodite (voice of Alexandra Tydings).
HERCULES AND XENA: THE BATTLE FOR MOUNT OLYMPUS will qualify only as a must-see for die-hard fans of the two syndicated series, who will be pleased that the story remains true to the characters (especially as regards the warm friendship between Xena and Gabrielle), albeit in a watered down form suitable for children.

Because the series was shown on all ITV companies late at night (just before closedown at first, then as the first programme of night-time programming with the advent of 24-hour broadcasting in the late 1980s), it became a favourite of the local continuity announcers.
The first major story arc-defining event in the series is the turf war for top dog status between Bea Smith and Franky Doyle, culminating in a prison riot in which Meg Jackson is held hostage, and her husband, prison psychiatrist Bill Jackson (Don Barker), is stabbed to death by inmate Chrissie Latham (Amanda Muggleton).
The series was produced by the Reg Grundy Organisation and ran on Network Ten for 692 episodes from 1979 to 1986.

Even devoted viewers of such "reality-based" TV series as Cops and Survivor must be unnerved on some level by the tension between the breezily impersonal showbiz scaffolding and the real, messy, often devastated lives of the subjects.

The style is deadpan, a brilliant pastiche of the "docu-soaps" which have plagued TV schedules for the past decade, but the humour is intense, quick-fire and full of disturbingly memorable one-liners ("talk to the organ, not the monkey grinder" has become a catchphrase in my house!).
Phoenix Nights allows him a lead role in writing, casting and performing in a comedy so quirky and lo-fi that it's the nearest thing to US director Kevin Smith's "Jay and Silent Bob" quintet that Britain in general, and Bolton in particular, has ever produced.
The first series of Phoenix Nights, created by and starring Bolton-born comic Peter Kay, is one of those rare gems that few saw on first showing but that everyone was soon talking about.
