		Smithtown is bordered on the north by Long Island Sound, the west by Huntington, the south by Islip and the east by Brookhaven, and lies in the western part of Suffolk County, approximately 50 miles east of New York City.
		Legend has it that Richard Smythe acquired the land that is today Smithtown by outfoxing the local Indians, making a "deal" where, for a fixed sum, they would sell him as much land as he could ride around on a bull in one day.
		The date of the painting from which the mural was done is unknown, but it would of necessity be subsequent to 1872, the year the trestle was completed.
