		This album mostly presents the songs heard in the film, either music that the characters listen to or that is played as an adjunct to on-screen situations.
		The most publicized contribution to this album were the two tracks performed by Jerry Garcia's band, recorded just before his death.
		Given that Portman's albums are usually criticized for their repetition, these short excerpts are perhaps the best way to experience her scores on record.

		Doubtless this influenced the fact that "No Smoke" received little press coverage on its release, as well as the fact that it had a low showing in the UK album charts, peaking at number 43.
		In spite of this, the 22-date UK tour to promote the album was a huge success, with every venue sold out, proving that Wishbone Ash live were still a major draw.
		The album's opening track, "You See Red", written by Laurie Wisefield, was released as a single in September 1978, prior to the release of the album.

		Another Reason To Fast, the sophmore album by Atlanta's Smoke, is positively drenched in the three d's of cabaret gloom: dissolution, dissipation, and desperation.
		The saying in Atlanta is "Fuck the Olympics, but leave Benjamin alone," and the lead singer of Smoke certainly is the sickliest-looking sex symbol ever to compete for the role of the thinnest man in rock.
		Smoke's version of artistic intransigence may not involve any of the generally received notions of the term.

		Smoke City had ben gaining a strong cult following since "Underwater Love" and the musicians in this group are exceptional - from Nina Miranda to Christian Franck to Marc Brown.
		Smoke City's instrumentation is a weird combination of the electronica and organic: we've got beeps, blips and bloops mixed in with an acoustic guitar.

	Stephen Smoke: Trick of the Light
		Stephen Smoke has been working as a novelist since the '70s, writing psychological thrillers mainly.
		The album was meant to be promoted in tandem with Smoke's 1989 book with the same title, but the album never got national or international distribution.
		The album was recorded at Trax Studios, Hollywood, CA and Camp David Studios, Thousand Oaks, CA, and released on cassette tape on the Bigwig Records label.

		Copies of Smoke's self-titled album are highly valued by collectors of West Coast soft rock and psychedelic music.
		The album certainly deserves its reputation as one of the masterpieces of 1968.
		It opens with the organ-driven "Cowboys and Indians," which was producer/songwriter Michael Lloyd's personal homage to Brian Wilson's "Heroes and Villains" and lyrically makes mention of war (obviously the Vietnam war was very much on everyone's minds at the time).

		This album consists of only two side length cuts with Andy Dershin on bass, Jay Dorfman on drums and percussion, Marvin Kaminowitz on vocals and guitar, Michael Paris on saxes, flute, vocals, and percussion, and Steve Rosenstein on guitar on vocals.
		But strangely, another album from SWEET SMOKE wouldn't surface until 1973, and that album would be "Darkness to Light" and they were recording for Harvest Records by that time (and a lineup change).

		The keyboard/synth playing on this album is excellent; soundwise, Shingler uses the gamut of analog to synthetic sounds--perhaps to make up for the fact that the album sound palette consists entirely of keyboards, sampling and drum machine.
		My only real compliant about this album is the use of canned drums.
		For all of this, however, this album shows some inventive and fresh compositions.

		The album failed to "break" dnc to a nationwide audience, but it did "break" them with Island and with guitarist Buren Fowler.
		Granted, this album may take a few listens to appreciate, but it is well worth the patience.
		Lead singer and songwriter Kevn Kinney has dismissed Smoke as too riff happy, and says he wrote the words to fit the riffs instead of the other way around, but it's still a classic album from one of rock's most underrated bands.

	The Music Box: Smoke - Motion Picture Soundtrack (Album Review)
		Smoke is a wonderful movie, and its soundtrack is suitably solid.
		What makes it stand out from most film-oriented compilations, however, are the two tunes recorded by the Jerry Garcia Band: Cigarettes and Coffee and Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.
		Unfortunately, the more recent incarnations of the Jerry Garcia Band found its way into the studio far too infrequently, and these selections highlight the greatness that it could have achieved.

		In 1999, Angelo Badalamenti wrote a beautiful score to The Straight Story (and got a Golden Globe Nomination for it), as well as a dark, tense atmospheric score to the thriller Arlington Road.
