  Smokie Facts
Smokie is a sound and not dependant on one person, which is often the case on the pop scene.
In March 1995 Smokie was involved in a traffic accident on their way to the airport in Düsseldorf and while Alan Silson and Terry Uttley were badly injured, Alan Barton's injuries were so severe that he died after 5 days of struggling in intensive care.
And the band is confirming their reputation of being perhaps the hardest working band in the business with 260 days on tour last year together with 178 flights from country to country with their tireless manager John Wagstaff.

Mike Craft - a friend of the band, was invited to audition and after just playing one song, the band knew that Mike was to be their new front man. It was felt that Mike had the strength and sensitivity to take the band into their next chapter.

Smokie were perceived in the UK at least as a pop singles band although the original idea was for the band to be more like Creedence Clearwater Revival or maybe Humble Pie.
Chris left Smokie in the early eighties and his debut single believe it or not was a very credible version of Love Is A Battlefield but sadly Pat Benatar took the honours and the hit with that song.
The album has a very live sound and the reason for that is that Chris and his band basically went into the studio and cut the album live with just a few overdubs on the vocal front.
