Washington County is a county located in the state of Virginia.
In 1832 the northeastern part of Washington County was combined with part of Wythe County to form Smyth County.
In the county, the population is spread out with 20.80% under the age of 18, 8.70% from 18 to 24, 28.30% from 25 to 44, 26.90% from 45 to 64, and 15.30% who are 65 years of age or older.
