Idaho Public Television's Idaho, A Portrait - The Snake River
Snake River was named for the people who once lived in the high desert surrounding it.
Today, an affectionate name for the Snake River, the longest river in Idaho at 1,056 miles, is the "mighty Snake." The river gives life to a remarkable string of cities and towns that hang on the river like beads on a string.
Despite all of its work, the river manages to be other things at different places--a vacation paradise for anglers; a habitat for fish from trout to catfish to sturgeon; a canyon home for the largest gathering of nesting owls, hawks, eagles, and falcons on the continent; and a federally-designated "wild and scenic" river.

eMedicine - Snake Envenomations, Sea : Article by James Foster, MD, MS
Sea snakes are found predominantly in tropical and subtropical waters in the western Pacific and Indian Oceans, often in protected coastal waters and near river mouths.
History: The diagnosis of sea snake envenomation requires the establishment of the potential for exposure to a sea snake (eg, exposure to water in an area known to harbor sea snakes), identification of symptoms of envenomation, and demonstration of evidence of a bite (eg, multiple puncture wounds or reliable history of observed bite).
Because of the relatively small size of sea snake fangs and the relative lack of local irritation, the diagnosis of envenomation may be inadvertently missed or patients may be prematurely discharged before serious symptoms occur.
