Snape Castle.' There is another Snape Village that is near Saxmundham, northeast of Ipswich near the Alde River.
Contrary to the assumptions of some, Snape is not a vampire, although he does in some way resemble those creatures (WBD).

Snape, if he had been a pureblood from the same general social group as Malfoy, would probably be some degree of cousin either to Lucius or Narcissa, and quite possibly both of them.
The fact that Snape joined, and was able to join, the Death Eaters at all seems to make it fairly clear that he at least did not give any appearance of finding their stated agenda repellent in itself.
I now suspect that Snape probably set off to Hogwarts confident in the awareness of being “as good” as any pureblood in either knowledge, power, or skill, but that it would be a mistake to allow anyone to know the truth that his father was a Muggle.

We also must remember that if Snape were truly loyal to Dumbledore, then he would have informed the headmaster of the Unbreakable Vow he'd made with Narcissa, therefore making it imperitive that Snape either sacrifice himself, along with Draco for not doing the deed himself, or an ailing Dumbledore.

If Snape was in league with Voldemort, but didn't know about Voldemort living in Quirrell's head, Snape could have been trying to convert Quirrel over to the dark side not knowing that he *was* the dark side, but that doesn't make make sense given the events that eventually transpired.
Snape does hate Harry but also protects him from other death eaters who would kill him.While there is no incontrovertable proof, I think Rowling has set us up for a very interesting reversal.
Snape is probably the ONLY member of the Order who could protect his double-agent status from the Dark Lord because of his skill at Oclumancy (?).

Snape wants to be the most powerful wizard alive, and he will very discretly help Harry destroy the Horcruxes so he can take VOldemorts place.
Snape could very well think this is his chance to become the most powerful wizard, I think if that happens it won't be something he originally planned.
Also Snape will have to figure out the horcruxes also, DD probably confided his thoughts to him on this matter, although 1 or 2 are still just a stab in the dark kind of guesses.
