It is also filmed in the same visual style and features many of the same actors, including Vinnie Jones, Jason Statham and Jason Flemyng, who appears in a minor role as one of the 'pikies'.
Snatch is a dark comedy of errors, in which most of the humor results from accidents, ironic coincidences and bad luck.
In the beginning of the film, the diamond is referred to as weighing 86 carats (17.2 g), while later on, it is mentioned that the stone is 82 or 84 carats (16.4 or 16.8 g).

"Snatch" is fantastic; and not least because it demonstrates emphatically that the British movie industry is capable of rivaling even the best of what Hollywood can offer.
Everyone in the film puts in an excellent performance, but Pitt stands out as a charismatic and near-incomprehensible Gypsy boxer.
Like Ritchie's earlier film, this one takes a little while to find its feet, but once it does the pace doesn't slacken until the finale.

 Snatch
Snatch is a film to be ridden for the sheer joy of the ride.
Snatch's purpose, it's gleeful, passionate raison d'être is to simply set up and play with characters and situations, allowing them room enough to fool and be fooled and to play out their sorry absurdist lives in a loud, anarchic theatre.
In Snatch, he proves that Lock, Stock was no fluke, and establishes both himself and his creative team as a power to be reckoned with, building on the confidence of the previous film, and successfully delivering a finely crafted, hilariously raucous little gem.

 Review of "Snatch" (2000)
Snatch is a perfect example that kind of movie, one that harbors no loftier ambitions than to simply show you a rocking good time.
This is the second film director Guy Ritchie has made, his first being Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, a complex caper comedy set in the British underground, featuring colorfully-named thieves and assorted other lowlifes that happen to cross paths in their quest for money.
Sure, Snatch is strikingly similar to its predecessor (like I said, a reworking), and the story does revolve around a collection of brain-dead criminals after the same goal (as one character notes, “Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity”), but the emulation ends there.

SNATCH movie review, In Film Australia
Both ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’ and ‘Snatch’ focus on characters who wanted to make a quick buck but didn’t have the brains to contain their petty crimes from spiraling way out of their control and into the hands of somebody else’s.
Yeah, ok, but the beauty of Ritchie’s films is that he is not ambiguous in any sense -- both ‘Snatch’ and ‘Lock, Stock’ actually present practical things to illustrate what the characters are after.
‘Snatch’ is a far more complex narrative than ‘Lock, Stock,’ and has intricacies and sub plots that seem to criss-cross and muddle into each other but I’m sure that’s just because so much action is taking place.

Orlando Weekly - Film Review - Snatch   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-01)
In 1998 British writer/director Guy Ritchie strafed the macho flank of the indie film corps with "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels," a slapstick, heist-gone-wrong flick in which three groups of guys overlapped criminal schemes.
The film was the bee's knees in England and a minor hit here.
There's an off-and-on narrator; a valuable commodity that characters don't realize is in their possession (here the gem, in the previous version two antique guns); impassive hit men; henchmen who get toppled like bowling pins; and essentially no women in sight.

"Snatch" seems almost anachronistic now, a relic of a bygone era when the Brits again ruled pop culture, when the music of Oasis was everywhere and "Trainspotting" was all the rage.
"Snatch" follows the path of a stolen diamond through the hands, pockets and minds of a group of criminals from all walks of the lower depths: pawnbrokers, gun brokers and jewel merchants.
With the exception of the opening, which pokes along just so that "Snatch" can grab you by the scruff of the neck and pull you along for the rest of its 105 minutes, the picture is an explosion of graphics and jump cuts.

HYBRIDMAGAZINE.COM | REVIEWS | Various Artists - Snatch: Original Film Soundtrack
Film or not, the Snatch soundtrack stands alone as a fine work and stakes its claim as best soundtrack of 2001.
Unlike Snatch, a large number of soundtrack albums fall victim to the unfortunate trend of including top 40 hits that you will never find anywhere in the film so they can milk every penny with the aid of the films marketing campaigns.
It was nice to listen to such a creatively blended selection of music for a soundtrack, other film producers should take note and select tracks themselves for their next film (unless of course their music tastes suck).

From here, these crooks and others make mistake after mistake, which eventually come together in one deliriously choreographed sequence of events involving three or four sets of criminals, all on their way to get the diamond, either intentionally or by accident.
To be fair, though, Snatch isn't so much interested in its characters' psychologies as it is in their actions and reactions, displayed in amped-up, double-quick time.

Snatch Movie Review by Anthony Leong from MediaCircus.net
That is the question posed upon viewing "Snatch", the latest offering from the same director who made a splash two years ago with the cult crime-comedy "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels".
Like the 1998 film, "Snatch" is composed of a series of separate stories ties together by an 84 karat diamond.
The various story threads in "Snatch" also don't come together as tightly as they did in "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels", and there is a definite lull in the proceedings as the film enters the third act and the story just about runs out of steam.

It's a film about confusion, dumb plots, and drastic mistakes made by people who think they're smart when really they are all dumb as lamposts.
The first few minutes of Snatch looked like it was going to be a cash-in imitation of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, but Snatch quickly developed its own story and characters.
Both "Lock, Stock" and Snatch are stylistically similar presentation-wise in a Pulp Fiction (1994) kind of way: Characters involved with various criminal activity are unaware of each other's presence throughout most of the movie, but then they are ultimately all connected by the closing credits.

However, they tended to work in this film, because it uses a quick-cut editing technique that hurries the movie along for the most part, but that lends itself to being dramatically slowed down, sped up or recolored in many different ways.

 Film Blather: Snatch
I'll be honest: I couldn't follow every thread of Snatch's manic story in one viewing, and there was no way I was going to subject myself to a second one, so the plot description here will be sketchy, at best.
The prominent actor, who remains inconspicuous despite roles in blockbusters like Space Cowboys, Mission: Impossible 2 and on a lesser scale Eyes Wide Shut and Stigmata, gets the most out of what is essentially an overblown caricature.
By the time Snatch, overlong at 102 minutes, drew to a close it had lost me, not only with its storyline (that happened about an hour before) but with just about everything.
