The Sneneymuxw are hopeful that even now the estuary can be recovered, and have entered into negotiations with the province to reduce the number of logs boomed in the area.
However, despite an agreement the Sneneymuxw negotiated with the provincial government to begin reducing the number of log booms in the estuary, the province has announced its intentions to grant a new 20-year log booming lease.
The Sneneymuxw, while accepting that log booming must be phased out over time, objected to a 20-year commitment to further use of the estuary in this manner.

La primera nación de Sneneymuxw es una venda de la gente de Salish de la costa que ha vivido a lo largo de la costa del este de la isla sur-central de Vancouver por 5.000 años.
La población de la venda es 1.300, pero 65 por ciento de gente de Sneneymuxw viven de reserva.

 Nanaimo District Museum - Exhibits
Although museum consultants can be hard to come by, "it will pay off by being a director for the provincial association (British Columbia Museums Association) and having access to them as a director." Trueman will also look to the community for input as the new museum begins to take shape.
With a significant number of First Nations artifacts on loan from other institutions in Canada and the US, many of which now have to be returned, the museum will begin working more closely with the Sneneymuxw First Nations to incorporate more local artifacts into the revised exhibit.
The museum's First Nation exhibit is now 10 years old and in need of some changes.
