	Snina - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Snina (Hungarian: Szinna) is the easternmost town in Slovakia placed at the confluence of the Cirocha river and the small river Pčolinka in the valley between the Beskydy foothills and the Vihorlat mountain.
		Snina as an oppidum (small town) is mentioned in port records ("porta" meaning the gate to the court yard or several serf houses) beginning in 1585.
		Between 1570 and 1630, it is evident from port records that Snina was the seat of krajňa ("krajňa" meaning the administrative district of villages).

		From the political and administrative point of view, City Snina is the seat of the district Snina associating 34 municipalities, which ranks the city among the smaller district in Slovakia.
		With the population of 21 325 inhabitants as of May 26, 2001, Snina is also one of the smaller cities in the Slovak Republic.
		The unemployment rate in district of Snina reached the level of 22 % as of August 30, 2000, which is almost comparable value with the rate of unemployment in the region of Prešov achieving 22,5%, but essentially higher level than the national unemployment rate reaching 17,2%.

		SNINA - The Vihorlat Snina factory, once the major employer in this far eastern Slovak region, has been bought by Vihorlat s.r.o., a firm co-owned by the Dutch firm Cebuwa (66%) and the Slovak Hubertus (34%).

		Almost 1,500 inhabitants of Snina in Slovakia have protested against the town hall's plans to sell the town's park estate to Tesco, which wants to build a new store there.
