		Snivilisation represents the beginning and end of my Orbital albums, so I won't be writing about them for quite some time.
		Snivilisation goes easier on the sound-bites than its forebears and the first song Forever begins with a synth-driven melody over a chorus of voices proclaiming on human suffering and human damnation.
		Because the voice samples on Snivilisation are more extensive and deliberate than on earlier albums, they create the suggestion of a conversation, but more, the songs (like Crash and Carry) without vocals seem more machine-driven than they would have in earlier albums (where voices were just part of the progression).

		In Russell Hoban's Riddley Walker, "snivilisation" is the post-literate word for "civilization." Orbital's metier is techno, the first post-literate kind of music-not in the sense that it's lost its capability to use words, but in the sense that it's used technology to move past verbal language.
		Words appear from time to time on Snivilisation, but they're mixed so low you usually can't make them out: They're used for their sound, not their content, the same as Orbital uses any other kind of noise.
		When Orbital abandons beats altogether (as on long parts of the closing epic "Attached," a sequel of sorts to the earlier "Semi-Detached"), the rest of the track is often so richly layered that it's difficult to notice.

		The problem with Snivilisation is that it's not much when it comes to individual tracks.
		This was more passable in the days where CDs were the be all and end all, but now many of us have well over 2000 songs on a device the size of a wallet and when we have it on shuffle, we get random tracks flying all over the place.
		So having decided at some point during my delays at the station that Snivilisation should get a chance, I was pleasantly surprised.

		To a large extent they have cojoled previously disinterested individuals into believing that with a bit of imagination, anything is possible, even within the realms of a genre prone to large-scale anonymity.

		It is hard to beat 'Forever' as an opener, flitting as it does between cool keyboard strokes and fluid spacey noises.

		In 1998 I purchased Snivilisation, In Sides, and a handful of other seminal electronica albums, little knowing that I would spend the next five years searching for a musical experience as fulfilling as Orbital's best work.
		So I pulled out Snivilization again, only to be reminded anew of how stunning it is, and how it makes most of the work by others in the field seem peurile by comparison.
		When I found 'Snivilization', I noticed on the back a song "Sad But True", which I listened to and as I suspected before purchase was the original version that "Sad But New" was mixed from.

		It's modern electronic music using the studio as a compositional tool- how's that for a sexy movement title, New Wave Of New Wave!- and 'Snivilisation' is as wonderful an example of it as you're going to hear at present.
		Orbital were always deeper than that, but 'Snivilisation' marches on from what has gone previously.
		The title refers to an assumed condition of life in the modern world, an illusory state of civilisation that masks the domination of a vicious and corrupt ruling class.

		The album is a jab at the world, at least the Western world, making known the lack of confidence Orbital has (or had) for any kind of future in this culture.

	Adrian's Album Reviews : Orbital
		I personally rate Snivilisation as their most average LP.
		It seems a logical continuation of the sound of 'Snivilisation' but as the title suggests, minus the techno philosophical paranoia and with a little more beach and sunshine!
		The album lacks the smooth transitions, track to track that made 'Snivilisation' such an enjoyable listen from beginning to end.
