 WHITE NOISE
EVP, as it is mercifully known, posits that the dead communicate with the living through sound and image, especially the static, snow and white noise of modern electronic hardware (TVs, radios, computers, recorders).
Except for a vigorous turn from star Michael Keaton, White Noise, the feature debut of British TV director Geoffrey Sax, is a by-the-numbers thriller that catapults a successful architect into a hellish adventure after his best-selling novelist wife dies and dispatches messages from the other side.
White Noise further messes with the concept by having its dispatches strictly local, not long-distance.

 Don Markstein's Toonopedia: Betty Boop
Boop cartoons of this era could be whimsical, like Crazy Town (1932); melodramatic, like She Wronged Him Right (1934), or surreal, like Snow White (1933), whose wicked queen uttered a "Mirror, mirror" rhyme four years before Disney's, in his version of the story.
But more — she is also La Boop, an enduring little piece of a never-to-be-recaptured era of American film history.
The cartoons of her golden age turned up on 1950s TV, as fillers on cable, on bargain bin videos.

 Fargo (1996)
The film opens with a memorable white-out, blinding blizzard in the 'dead' of winter, causing the screen to be drenched in the white of the vast, snow-covered landscape without recognizable landmarks.
An anomaly of categorization, the contemporary masterpiece is a film noir (with stark white vistas and backdrops), a satirical comedy, a suspenseful crime drama, and a violent mystery thriller.
His balding, 60-ish father-in-law Wade Gustafson (Harve Presnell) is in the living room watching professional hockey on TV [the first of many characters in the film who find escapist entertainment on the tube], while waiting for dinner (a common occurrence).

Former President Eisenhower reportedly denounced the film's many historical inaccuracies (even the casual viewer must have given pause to the sudden appearance of desert terrain in snow-covered Belgium), but the bigger problem is the script's characters.
Battle of the Bulge is at times stunning to look at, an attribute mostly lost in 40 years of panned-and-scanned TV airings.

Movie Review: The Jungle Book 2 / Mountain Xpress / Asheville, NC
The original 1967 Jungle Book wasn't one of the studio's more shining moments to begin with, but next to first-time director Steven Trenbirth's sequel, the original is the equal of Snow White, Dumbo and Pinocchio all rolled together.
It's not very surprising to find that Trenbirth was previously director of animation on a slew of Disney products for the home-video market, since the level of animation here is closer to that of Saturday-morning TV than it is to classic Disney.
Jungle Book 2, on the other hand, proves that if you lock one screenwriter (Karl Geurs of Star Trek: The Next Generation fame) in a room with five people supplying what is called "additional material," you end up with so much monkey dung.

Home Theater Forum - HTF REVIEW: Alice in Wonderland (Highly Recommended!!!)
Disney's final version of Alice in Wonderland followed in the traditions of his feature films like Fantasia and Bambi and The Three Caballeros in that Walt Disney intended for the visuals and the music to be the chief source of entertainment, as opposed to a tightly-constructed narrative like Snow White or Cinderella.
Though not an outright disaster, the film was never re-released theatrically in Walt Disney's lifetime, airing instead every so often on network television (in fact, Disney's Alice in Wonderland aired as the 2nd episode of Walt Disney's "Disneyland" TV series on ABC in 1954).
Alice in Wonderland would boast the greatest number of songs included in any Disney film, but because some of them last for mere seconds (like "How Do You Do and Shake Hands", "A, E, I, O, U", "We'll Smoke the Monster Out", "Twas Brillig", "The Caucus Race", and others), this fact is frequently overlooked.
