 Snuff Garrett Page
Snuff Garrett had a knack for recognizing what could become a hit record, and he is one of the producers that brought us some of the great sounds of the 60's.
Snuff Garrett's formula was to use the snappy tunes written by the Brill Building songwriters in New York, and to make sure that the words on the songs were intelligible.
Snuff Garrett was an A&R man and a record producer in the 50's and 60's.

 Snuff Garrett b
Producer Garrett was largely responsible for the rise of the Los Angeles-based Liberty label.
Garrett then began a fruitful partnership with Bobby Vee and, drawing material from Don Kirshner's Aldon publishing house, produced a series of polished, highly commercial singles, including Take Good Care Of My Baby and Run To Him (both 1961).
He also embarked on a concurrent recording career and, as Tommy Garrett, was responsible for several MOR albums.

This Diamond Ring by Gary Lewis and The Playboys Songfacts
Gary Lewis (born Cary Levitch, name legally changed at age 2) is the son of comedian Jerry Lewis, who lived two doors down from producer Snuff Garrett's house.
Gary's lead vocal was "helped" by Garrett overdubbing the voice of session singer Ron Hicklin (sources disagree if the Playboys' voices also made it to the record).
Gary Lewis and the Playboys had seven Top 10 hits in two years (1964-66) before breaking up as a result of Gary being drafted into the army.

 Gary Lewis biography : albums : icebergradio.com
The younger Lewis and his band got a gig during the summer of 1964 playing at Disneyland, and that engagement, coupled with some urging by the elder Lewis, helped get the band a hearing from Snuff Garrett, a top producer based at Liberty Records.
Lewis himself was possessed of a limited singing range and didn't have what could be considered good looks, yet with a lot of help he managed to make some exceptionally good (and good-selling) records out of Los Angeles, in the midst of the British Invasion, and teenagers loved him.
The resulting record, on which Lewis sang (with lots of doubling of his voice) and he and the Playboys played on some of the basic tracks, but which mostly featured Hal Blaine on timpani and arranger Leon Russell dubbing much of what was left, was a career-making smash.

In 1962 “Sealed With A Kiss” went to #3 on the charts as would the 1970 hit “Gypsy Woman.” In 1966 Brian recorded an album produced by Snuff Garrett with assistance from the musi-cal legends Leon Russell and J.J. Cale.
At the age of sixteen years old, Brian had accom-plished what few had ever dreamed of...signing a recording contract with a major label.
On stage, Brian performs not only his hits but also does originals and has an extensive catalog of rock n’ roll classics.

Gene signed a contract with Liberty Records in California and worked with producer Tommy "Snuff" Garrett, who supplied Gene with songs written by the Brill Building stable of songwriters, including Bacharach & David, Goffin & King, and Pomus & Shuman.
Gene McDaniels was a very good singer with a big voice, and may have lasted longer in the pop music business had he continued to find good material to record.
Gene's brief fling with fame resulted in his appearance in the 1962 British film It's Trad, Dad which was directed by Richard Lester.

The frequent meals in and around Columbia soon brought me in contact with a fellow who was very encouraging to me; "Bunny" Botkin was involved in record producing, song writing, group singing and did string arrangements for Liberty Records and many of the records produced by Tommy "snuff" Garrett, including those of Johnny Burnette.
Stanley Styne, Perry Botkin Jr., and Gilbert Garfield stayed in touch after that until I moved to New York in 1961 to make my name with the Brill Building crowd.
After this he went on to co-write the piano classic *"Nadia's Theme" under his real name Perry Botkin Jr.

 J.J. Cale
In the late 60s, John was working for Snuff Garrett in New York and L.A. as a producer, working with acts as unlikely to his eventual notoriety as Blue Cheer.
But aside from Cale's songwriting power, his guitar style was irresistible and very influential, certainly no more obviously than in the playing of Mark Knopfler, though Cale characteristically backpedals the notion.
He is an incredibly understated and reserved person, his personality apparently unsuited to airplane runway lighting, and he's been known to spend a lot of time in the desert or by the water in his trailer.

During the early Seventies, Cher began to establish herself as a solo recording artist with producer Snuff Garrett, and she scored three U.S. #1 hits with the songs Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves (1971), Half-Breed (1973), and Dark Lady (1974).
Cher had demonstrated her considerable comedic talents in the various skits she performed on The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, and while she was highly regarded in this arena, her ambition to develop a movie career was at first not taken seriously.
Cher likes a partner who is mentally alive and who keeps her guessing a little bit, and she becomes restless and bored with someone who never asks questions, never changes or surprises her.

But it was that first Harry Callahan film that captured the public fancy and would spawn four sequels, making Eastwood even more famous as a San Francisco detective than he had been as a western antihero.
There is no actual theme for Harry Callahan, although Schifrin's main-title sequence comes as close as one might like, with its fast-moving bass figure and dark, jazzy piano solo.

Sonny & Cher Albums, Biography and Music Guide
With a top-rated weekly TV program and a series of hit records produced by the sage veteran Snuff Garrett (Bobby Vee, Gary Lewis and the Playboys), Sonny and Cher were back entertaining the parents of the people who only a few years before were buying their records.
Formed 1964, in Los Angeles, CA Sonny and Cher began as the Ozzie and Harriet of the Flower Power set, invariably garbed in mod rags throughout the 1960s.
Music dropped to little more than a sideline for her; in fact, her albums became more noteworthy for fleshy covers (which is perhaps what attracted Beavis and Butt-head, the vulgar TV cartoons, to arrange for a Cher cameo) than the music inside.
