Most of the nations also affirmed that whales should be culled because of their appetite for fish, and that environment groups such as Greenpeace needed to be curbed.
So keen was Charles to argue Japan's case that whales are depleting fisheries, she came close to suggesting humpbacks (which fast in the tropics) eat tuna.
So he made a joke about how different that was from the bickering of the IWC, and started on the next step of Japan's plan to "normalise" the organisation after its victory at the conference.

Today is the end of the fiscal year for the organization, and like a gigantic f-bomb dropped on the employees - today was the last day for a bunch of people.
So I would like to thank the organization for relieving me of stupid users that cannot figure out how to print, or change the margins of a speadsheet, that jump into my conversations, that consistently call in work after a bender.

By his own personal time scale, so far as he could estimate it, living as he had been under the alien rotations of distant suns, it was eight years since he had left, but what time had passed here he could hardly guess.

So Long and Thanks for All the Fish is the most serious books of the series thus far.
The book So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish was very entertaining partly because of the storyline, but also because of the significant amount of humor, the author, Douglas Adams used through out the book.

The best thing about Adams' fourth Hitchhikers' novel is that it is markedly better than the third one — and in fact it is the first of these books to bear a resemblance to an actual novel rather than a compendium of wacky sketches.
So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish may not be the funniest of these unique books, but in many ways, it's the warmest and most human.

BookBag@theLogBook.com: So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish
So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish jars with the remainder of the series by dispensing abruptly with the bizarre multitude of alien worlds depicted in the first three books, and focusing our attention on a world which, by all appearances, must be Earth in the mid-1980s.
And it's a clever ploy - we've gotten so used to Adams' wild flights of fancy that the more subtle setting and much more subtle humor of So Long is a bit jarring.
Adams' reluctance to even so much as mention these other characters is made clear in one rather brief, introspective chapter in which he berates any readers who might be missing more typically Hitchhiker-ish fare, and promises that some of their favorite characters will be appearing later in the book.

Adams had worked as a radio and television writer and producer before his life was changed by the book's publication in 1979.
It went on to sell more than 14m copies worldwide and preceded a series of best-selling titles by the author, including The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe; Life, The Universe And Everything; So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish; and Mostly Harmless.
The five books in the series detailed the adventures of Earthman Arthur Dent, who hitched a lift on a passing starship when his home planet was destroyed to make way for an interstellar bypass.

But a gift-wrapped fishbowl with a cryptic inscription, the mysterious disappearance of Earth's dolphins, and the discovery of his battered copy of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy all conspire to give Arthur the sneaking suspicion that something otherworldly is indeed going on.
