Sobriquet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A sobriquet is a nickname or a fancy name, usually a familiar name given by others as distinct from a pseudonym assumed as a disguise, but a nickname which is familiar enough such that it can be used in place of a real name without the need of explanation.
Sobriquets are not always used to highlight virtuous qualities, either.
Fowler's Modern English Usage (1926) warned, "Now the sobriquet habit is not a thing to be acquired, but a thing to be avoided; and the selection that follows is compiled for the purpose not of assisting but of discouraging it." Fowler included the sobriquet among what he termed the "battered ornaments" of the language.

When Sobriquet Magazine first appeared in 1995, it was a punk rock magazine that also covered other areas of the cultural and political landscape.

July is the first full-length effort from the solo project of Snog keyboardist, Elenor Raynor; otherwise known as Sobriquet.
Sobriquet kick things into high gear with the upbeat and dancefloor-friendly XLS, which showcases a smooth melody and a highly infectious chorus.
By contrast, the next couple of tracks, Sarah and In the Beginning, are somewhat more aggressive, featuring what one could dub Raynor's "Pissed Off Voice," and, as could be expected, more prominent guitars (yet without them being too prominent to the point of over-saturation).
