	Socialist Action (UK)
		Socialist Action is a small socialist group in the United Kingdom.
		Small groups of Socialist Action members regularly jumped ship and joined the Internationl Group and its successor the International Socialist Group between the original split in 1985 and the 1991.
		They are involved in the publication of Socialist Campaign Group News and their members have maintained leading positions in many campaigns - the National Abortion Campaign, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, National Assembly Against Racism and various coalitions against the wars against Iraq, Afghanistan and Yugoslavia, for example.

		Socialist Action has recently achieved some prominence as a result of the role of its members, ex-members or supporters among Ken Livingstone’s salaried political advisers at the Greater London Authority, and the resulting central role of GLA official and SA leader Redmond O’Neill in organising the London European Social Forum.
		Socialist Action has its origins in the Socialist League (formerly the International Marxist Group), between the late 1960s and mid-1980s the British section of (the Unified Secretariat of) the Fourth International, the major Trotskyist ‘international’.
		Socialist Action, with its overt collapse into Stalinist politics, is merely an extreme example of political ideas adapting themselves to the leadership’s bureaucracy.

	Letters to the editor
		For the last several years, employers have launched an international offensive against dockworkers--who in many cases are in the strongest unions in their respective countries--in the hopes that if they can break or weaken these economically strategic unions, they can defeat the entire workers’ movement.
		These are all terms used by the U.S. and UK administrations to describe the actions of Iraqi rebels.
		This is a clear case of political propaganda to justify an illegal military occupation and demonize the opposition.

	The General Election of 2005: Results and Prospects
		Rather than face massive strike action, Blair and co postponed their assault on public sector pensions – a policy which amounted to telling a million workers that the government would delay scrapping their pensions until after the workers had voted for them.
		The UK base rate has increased from a low of 3.5% in October 2003 to the current 4.75%.
		Action on the part of the unions to defend jobs, pensions etc will find a reflection inside the Labour Party, even in rebellions inside parliament.

		The walkouts were the angry response of staff to letters given out by management threatening the withdrawal of flexible working arrangements and other disciplinary action against those who were taking action in the current pay dispute.

		The NATO bombing of Yugoslavia set a precedent for unilateral military action by the United States and its allies outside of any framework of international law — making clear that such wars would not be subject to vetoes by China or Russia within the United Nations Security Council.

	The Poll Tax: The battle that brought down Thatcher
		But it was Militant supporters (now Socialist Party members) who played the key role in arguing for and carrying through the strategy and tactics which eventually proved victorious.
		The Socialist Workers Party initially argued that only industrial action by council unions could win and that mass non-payment was a non-starter.
