The Socialist Equality Party is the name of several branches of the Trotskyist International Committee of the Fourth International (ICFI), the largest being in the United States.
Tim Wohlforth was a youth leader in that party and was opposed to the course of the organisation.
The US SEP, now based in Michigan, endorsed John Christopher Burton when he ran in the California recall, although they urged people to vote "No" on the recall because they saw it as an attempt by right-wing forces to undo the results of the election that happened only a few months earlier.

The split was co-ordinated by the American section, the Socialist Workers Party, and included the British section under Gerry Healy and the French (PCI).

SEP’s opting out of involvement in the labor movement is based on its analysis of the union bureaucracy as "counter-revolutionary through and through." The Freedom Socialist Party (FSP) certainly agrees that the top labor leaders in the U.S. operate more in the interests of big business than of workers.
SEP says that Cuba’s government is petty-bourgeois nationalist and that the workers have not overthrown capitalism.

The socialist Workers Party was founded in 1938 by the Trotskyists of the former Communist League of America after its members had been expelled from the Socialist Party of America.
However the party put into practice the so-called Proletarian Military Policy of opposing the war politically while arguing that their members of military age, which meant most of the membership, should go with their class into the military and attempt to transform the imperialist war into a civil war while fighting the Nazis.
In 1976, the party won a lawsuit against the FBI as a result of years of spying by the FBI.

In January 2004, the SEP announced that it would field the Van Auken-Lawrence ticket for the 2004 Presidential race and field as many Congressional candidates as possible.
The SEP said its candidates are "running on a democratic and socialist program to defend the interests of working people and to oppose war, social reaction and attacks on democratic right." The SEP is very realistic about its chances for success in the election.

The Constitution Party of Texas has not named an official slate of candidates yet, but those announcements should come after the party spends about $150,000 to obtain the 45,000-signature requirement needed for third parties to get on the ballot.
The law says the parties are listed in the order in which “the first candidate” of a group filed, not “the first candidate for Mayor”.
