Socialist Organiser was the name of a defunct weekly socialist newspaper circulated in the British Labour Party.
The newspaper was founded by the 1979 Socialist Campaign for a Labour Victory, which was renamed the Socialist Organiser Alliance.
Socialist Organiser was denied the right to 'register' with the Labour Party in 1990, but this had little practical effect and it continued to be published until the mid-1990s, when the AWL launched their new newspaper, Action for Solidarity, now known simply as Solidarity.

It published the weekly paper Socialist Press and a number of issues of a theoretical journal Trotskyism Today, in the pages of which the United Secretariat of the Fourth International was dismissed in an article entitled The Poisoned Well.
The fusion of the two groups was achieved in July 1981 with the fused group maintaining the name Workers Socialist League, often called the 'new' WSL, with Socialist Organiser as its paper (although theoretically SO was a "broad" paper and not that of the WSL or I-CL before it).
Matgamna's supporters continued with the WSL and Socialist Organiser but soon dropped the name WSL in favour of the Socialist Organiser Alliance, while Thornett's depleted followers founded a new smaller group called the Socialist Group, which was to publish a magazine called Socialist Viewpoint until they later fused with the International Group.

The Socialist Party is opposed to a premature launching of such an alliance or party because it would not involve significant new sections of working class activists.
Premature initiatives, in particular when they are undemocratically organised like the Socialist Labour Party and the SWP dominated Socialist Alliance in Britain, can set back and complicate the process towards the formation of a genuine alliance and a new party of the working class.
The Socialist Party was in favour of a slate of anti bin tax candidates but in order for a slate to have had the impact that some claim, there needs to be a developed mood and an active searching on behalf of the working class for such a political alternative.

As an opening shot, Socialist Party spokeswoman Hannah Sell, warned that the result of the SA Conference backing certain Constitutional proposals of the SWP, ISG and independents would be the SP's defection from the Alliance.
The argument of the SP was that the Alliance had to remain a Federal organisation which they claimed would make it more open to activists in the labour movement who were allegedly "breaking from their traditional organisations".
