		These are just some of the problems that working class people in southern Ireland have to contend with and are the backdrop to the general election on 24 May.
		The Socialist Party is campaigning hard to also get Mick Murphy and Mick Barry into the Dail.
		Winning more seats in parliament will help the Socialist Party to fight on the real issues that affect workers and will be an important step forward in the building of a new party that really represents working class people.

		The original leadership of the SWM (Ireland) left in sympathy with a small tendency in Britain and formed the Irish Workers Group, now Workers Power Ireland, which is now a tiny part of the League for the Fifth International.
		Unlike most other socialist groups, the SWM supported the revolutions against what it saw as 'State Capitalist' dictatorships- that regimes such as the Soviet Union were not socialist but another form of capitalism, directed not by corporations but by a Stalinist bureaucracy using the state.
