 SocialText Opens Up Code to Promote Wikis
Enterprise wiki vendor SocialText is opening up the code to its applications in a move that will help promote the wiki platform and aid SocialText in the development of its products.
Approximately 20 percent of SocialText's code is open source licensed today, co-founder and CEO Ross Mayfield told Intranet Journal, but he hopes that number is up to 80 percent by the first quarter of 2006.

I met Ross Mayfield a couple of years ago and liked him from the start, which is just makes it that much more enjoyable to now say that we are an investor as well as a supporter.
To me this shift is a good thing, it signifies that the market is maturing, accepting the technology, and most important that Socialtext was successful in being far enough ahead of the market swing but not too far ahead to have people say "oh yeah, they've been around for a long time".
Socialtext is one of the most interesting companies we have invested in and it goes without saying that we will do everything possible to support them in their mission.

Back to Socialtext, perhaps there is more to the new design than the desire to create a very simple, clutter-free user experience: the underlying philosophical difference between hierarchical structures, parent-child data relationship vs. everything being flat (created at the home page) and only associated through links embedded in page text.
Socialtext simply lists all documents with the same title (or not), not recognizing them as version of the same file.
