Disinformation :: The Society For Creative Anachronism
The Society for Creative Anachronism moniker itself was the creation of feminist writer, activist, and neo-pagan Marion Zimmer Bradley, who came up with it about a month later when she needed to fill in a blank on a form to reserve Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland for the group's second event.
The Society, after all, was more than a physical outlet for the creative energies and unfulfilled ideations of a generation of young misfits: It was also a way to impress chicks with one's physical prowess, the perfect antidote to the stereotype of the bespectacled, Spock-grokking sci-fi nerd.
SCA members are also a ubiquitous presence on the neo-medieval, fantasy roleplaying, Renaissance Faire, and gothic subcultures, which, it can be argued, the group helped to inspire.

This may well be the origin of the popular christian image of an angel as a winged female figure.
For the trade tremissis, Ian Cnulle "secularized" the design by substituting for the globus cruciger a goblet or chalice (but not a grail?) symbolizing hospitality, as well as the feasting and revelling dimension of SCA activities in general.
