The origins of Pacifica House begin with the Franklin Society in 1824, a literary club that arose in opposition to the intellectual dominance of the rival United Brothers and Philermenian Societies at Hope College.
House officials helped forge the Cammarian Club in 1893, a leadership forum that evolved into the Undergraduate Council of Students 70 years later, and also initiated modern debating unions, college rituals, and student advisory committees at the turn of the century.
Pacifica House members were particularly active during the late 1960's in their attempts to improve curricular practices at Brown.

Actually, according to the Humane Society, leaving a dog outside at night subjects them to confrontations with wildlife (which dogs usually lose) and to digging under fences allowing them access to roadways where they can be hurt.
We do have a contract with the Peninsula Humane Society to deal with many animal problems, barking dogs are dealt with by the police department to the point where it becomes habitual.

At a recent Pacifica Historical Society event to raise awareness about the campaign to save the church, longtime Sharp Park residents recalled fondly how the church served not only religious purposes, but as a community center, at one time housing a baby clinic.
The historical society says the main chapel, which needs major work because it was partitioned into cubicles for the Police Department, could be renovated and become an attractive meeting hall, available for weddings, lectures, memorial services and other special events.
Under the society's plans, two former meeting rooms that were added in 1948 in the rear of the church would become a small museum of coastal history and an archive room for the society's historical photos and documents.
