 Socialism vs. United Order
In the meantime, while we await the redemption of Zion and the earth and the establishment of the United Order, we as bears of the priesthood should strictly by the principles of the United Order insofar as they are embodied in present church practices, such as the fast offering, tithing, and the welfare activities.
Elder Marion G. Romney Of the Council of the Twelve Apostles April Conference 1966 What I am going to give you is a statement I have prepared in answer to the question, "Is Socialism the United Order?" Some of you may have already heard it.
Now the differences: (1) The cornerstone of the United Order is belief in God and acceptance of him as Lord of the earth and the author of the United Order.

 Marin Druids Home Page
The modern order was formed in England in 1781, and its centennial was celebrated in America by enthusiastic meetings and addresses in a number of cities.
In the nomenclature of the Order the name Grove is used commonly as the name lodge in other orders, signifying a local body working under a regular dispensation.
Its object is to unite men together, irrespective of nation, tongue, or creed, for mutual protection and improvement; to assist socially and materially by timely counsel and instructive lessons; and to foster among its members the spirit of fraternity and good fellowship.

Original Declaration of the United Irishmen
Impressed with these sentiments, we have agreed to form an association to be called "The Society of United Irishmen", and we do pledge ourselves to our country, and mutually to each other, that we will steadily support and endeavour, by all due means, to carry into effect the following resolutions:
United Irish catechism reported from the Cloyne are of County Cork in December 1797.
Satisfied, as we are, that the intestine divisions among Irishmen have too often given encouragement and impunity to profligate, audacious and corrupt administrations, in measure which, but for these divisions, they durst not have attempted, we submit our resolutions to the nation as the basis of our political faith.

Initially, the Society of the United Irishmen was an open and legitimate organisation with the aims that were perfectly constitutional.
While Drennan was perfectly willing to concede that this was ‘good, and perhaps archery’, he feared that the Presbyterian United Irishmen could well find themselves abandoned by their putative allies.
The further west one travelled in Ulster the less likely Presbyterians were to embrace the United Irishmen.

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Roman Catholic Relief Bill
The Ulster Presbyterians celebrated with enthusiasm the fall of the Bastille, and in 1791 founded the Society of United Irishmen, having as the two chief planks in its programme Parliamentary reform and Catholic Emancipation.
The Defenders became United Irishmen, and these, despairing of Parliament, became republicans and revolutionists, and after Fitzwilliam's recall were largely recruited by Catholics.
The Catholics and Dissenters, so long divided by religious antagonism, were coming together, and if they made a united demand for equal rights for all Irishmen, without distinction of creed, the ascendency of the Episcopalian Protestants, who were but a tenth of the population, must necessarily disappear.

BBC - History - United Irishmen - up to 1798
Inspired by French Revolutionary ideals, a group of Protestants formed the Society of United Irishmen in Belfast in October 1791.
Nevertheless, the sight of French warships caused great excitement and yet more people enrolled in the society.
Legislative independence had been won in 1782 but the Irish Parliament only had Protestant members and even those were effectively nominated by leading men of property.

 United Irishmen
In 1791 an attempt was made to start a local branch of the United Irish Society.
In 1794 the United Irish Society itself was banned and locally it's members amalgamated with the remnants of the Defenders.
There was already a local active 'society' called the Defenders, who were secret and oath-bound, taking sporadically to the field against Rack-Renters or in sectarian outrages.

What is new in this invigorating essay is his far-reaching analysis of the economic crisis of militarized, wasteful "megastates" like the United States and the former Soviet Union, which have failed to bring about a meaningful redistribution of income.
Improving American productivity, he writes, will require investment in human resources and infrastructure (as Japan, Germany, Korea and Taiwan have done) and a drastic restructuring of organizations, including the elimination of most management layers.
