  Sociopathy
A brief so-called "history in relief" of sociopathy is provided, useful definitions are included, but the remainder of the paper will delineate characteristics and causes for sociopathy as it exists to provide a fertile bed for endemic conspiracies of all types and flavors — even cosmic ones some, very rationally, suspect (Dolan, 2000).
To begin: there is no separate history, as such, of sociopathy because, this writer contends, history is itself, in many, many cases, the obvious chronicle of the sociopath.
Sociopathy, for better or worse, fairly inundates history with its poster children — those infamous faces that pop into mind when one hears the word.

  Antisocial and Histrionic Personality Disorders
Antisocial personality disorder, also referred to as sociopathy or psychopathy, is characterized by a pervasive pattern of disregard for the rights of others, lying, deception, impulsivity, aggressive behavior, lack of empathy, and lack of remorse.
In other words, some individuals are born to be sociopaths as a result of their genetics, others are made to be sociopaths as a result of a harsh developmental history interacting with some predisposing genetic factors and many individuals are capable of a temporary pattern of antisocial behavior in response to proximate environmental factors.
Sociopathy can be maintained in human society only if it is limited in scope, either in the percentage of the population effected or in the length of time a large segment is engaged in antisocial behavior.

:: The Sociobiology of Sociopathy: An Integrated Evolutionary Model ::
For decades, evidence has been accumulating that both criminality and sociopathy have a substantial heritable component, and that this heritable component is to a large extent overlapping; that is, the heritable attributes that contribute to criminal behavior seem to be the same as those which contribute to sociopathy.
Secondary sociopathy is expressed by individuals who are not extreme on the genetic sociopathy spectrum, but who, because of exposure to environmental risk factors, pursue a life history strategy that involves frequent, but not necessarily emotionless cheating.
Since secondary sociopathy is more closely tied to environmental factors than to genetic factors, secondary sociopaths will almost always come from lower class backgrounds and their numbers could vary substantially across cultures and time, tracking environmental conditions favoring or disfavoring the use of cheating strategies.

What follows is a discussion of sociopathy (antisocial personality disorder), and the applications of the psychopathic personal philosophy, plus its relationship to an increased potential for what is otherwise a dismissed, ridiculed, and maligned theory of general conspiracy.

It is, however; the sociopathy that is the medium and the mechanism of a very real general conspiracy that stealthily plagues us today while the justified concern about it is too airily dismissed as the paranoid ravings of a lunatic fringe.

Furthermore, the evidence presented in favor of a genetic contribution to the causation of sociopathy is overinterpreted.
Take the finding that upperclass, but not lowerclass, boys who subsequently became delinquent showed physical signs of hypoarousal (last paragraph of section 2.3.3), which is presented as evidence for the idea that the upper-class individuals became delinquent as the result of a particularly strong genetic predisposition.
In fact, the only reasonably solid evidence provided for any genetic basis for either form of sociopathy are heritability estimates, derived from twin and adoption studies1, of around 0.60 (but see BBS commentary on Wahlsten, 1990, for a discussion of the scientific value of such estimates).

what is a sociopathic health practitioner or health system
The term 'successful sociopathy' is applicable to the social behaviour of any group of people who adopt a belief system that causes them to behave collectively in an anti-social or anti-communitarian manner.
When such a culture is very successful, if there are adverse outcomes for individuals or for sections of society as a consequence of culturally saturated beliefs and related actions, that culture becomes deaf to reason or facts.
It is not intended to suggest that these people are fundamentally different from the rest of us, and/or that they are all innately evil and a threat to communitarian considerations or society in general.

Studies conducted in both rural and urban areas of Taiwan have found a remarkably low prevalence of antisocial personality disorder, ranging from 0.03 percent to 0.14 percent, which is not none but is impressively less than the Western world's approximate average of 4 percent, which translates to one in twenty-five people.
And disturbingly, the prevalence of sociopathy in the United States seems to be increasing.
Sociopathy is an abberration in the ability to have and to appreciate real (noncalculated) emotional experience, and therefore to connect with other people within real (noncalculated) relationships.

BT Research - Sociopathy   (Site not responding. Last check: )
There are many idiosyncratic definitions of psychopathy and sociopathy in use among the laity.
Most sociologists, criminologists and even some psychologists believe the disorder is caused by social conflicts, and thus prefer the term 'sociopath.' Those who believe as Hare does, that a combination of psychological, biological and genetic factors all contribute to the disorder are more likely to use the term 'psychopath'.
The official stance of the American Psychiatric Association as presented in the DSM-IV-TR is that psychopathy and sociopathy are obsolete synonyms for antisocial personality disorder or APD.

The Origins of Violence: Is Psychopathy an Adaptation? by Ian Pitchford
In Mealey’s terminology primary sociopaths are biologically contraprepared to learn empathy and consequently demonstrate psychopathic behaviour at an early stage, whereas secondary sociopaths encounter a combination of risk factors such as a large number of siblings, low socio-economic status, urban residency, low intelligence and poor social skills.
These variables contribute to the development of secondary sociopathy in a two stage process involving initially parental neglect, abuse, inconsistent discipline, and punishment as opposed to rewards.
Primary sociopathy is thus a frequency-dependent adaptation, but secondary sociopathy is a facultative cheating strategy.

On the other hand, where everybody is sociopathic, it does not help to be sociopathic, since the sociopath relies upon being able to deceive those with expectations of fairness.
This is used to conclude that the prevalence of sociopathy is mitigated by the presence of fairness.

 America: breeding ground for psychopaths
Instead of being the product of childhood abuse within the family, or of attachment disorder, maybe sociopathy involves some interaction between the innate neurological wiring of individuals and the larger society in which they end up spending their lives.
This hypothesis is bound to be disappointing to some people, because though altering the conditions of pregnancy, childbirth, and child treatment on a massive scale would be no small project, changing the values and belief systems of an entire culture is an even more gigantic undertaking, with a time horizon that seems distant and discouraging.
Though sociopathy seems to be universal and timeless, there is credible evidence that some cultures contain fewer sociopaths than do other cultures.

Robert Hare, the noted Canadian researcher on the phychopathic personality, has pointed out in his book, most persons are unable to understand how a criminal and antisocial personality such as that of serial killers, is possible in a human being like ourselves.
Sociopathy is recognized early in an individual: it begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood (the diagnosis is possible around 15-16 years old).
The is widespread consensus that these extreme forms of violent sociopathy are untreatable and that their bearers must be confined for life in special asylums for the criminal insane.

In the interview, Stout acknowledges that there is little clear evidence regarding the prevalence of sociopathy in the general population.
Nevertheless, she argues for a prevalence of "approximately 4 percent." In the absence of reliable data, she bases this approximation on her own conclusions (which are based on assumptions regarding the equivalence of sociopathy across gender that are not necessarily supported by existing data) and on the "off the record" observations of her colleagues.
In this light, sociopathy of one form or another might be far more common than Stout suggests, and it might make greater sense to create a gradation scale of some sort that helps future investigators decide what in fact actually distinguishes those with a conscience from those without, and perhaps serves to better define both.

The Sociopath Next Door by Martha Stout, PhD | PopMatters Book Review
Stout claims that book was a protracted healing reaction to 11 September, a way for her to simultaneously examine the mechanics of the sociopathic mind and wax poetic about human bonds such as compassion, empathy, and love.
Crucial to her argument is showing what an unhappy state of mind sociopathy is. It's not some Nietzschean imperviousness to the sheep morality of the masses, but rather a stunted, empty, unfeeling disconnection from the human community, a life with a void at its center.
It's here that Stout's analysis falls shortest, but expecting the book to outline the structures of sociopathy, its cultural components and the detailed biological studies of the field would be to condemn the author to a life of perpetual research.

The existence of this second etiological pathway to sociopathy explains the fact that cultural differences are correlated with differences in the overall incidence of antisocial behavior (Wilson and Hernnstein 1985, Farley 1986, Gold 1987, Ellis 1988, Robins, Tipp and Przybeck 1991).
(2b) To reduce the frequency of secondary sociopathy, the appropriate social response is to implement programs which reduce social stratification, anonymity, and competition, intervene in high-risk settings with specialized parent education and support; and increase the availability of rewarding, prosocial opportunities for at-risk youth.
Despite being a genetically based strategy, because primary sociopathy is the end product of the additive and interactive effects of many genes, we will not be able to predict or identify individual sociopaths by knowledge of their genotype.

So while the probability of being kidnapped, butchered and eaten by a cannibal is vanishingly small, with a 1-in-33 occurrence of psychopathy in the adult male population – the prospect of you encountering (and potentially being victimized by) a sociopath is almost inevitable.
Empirical research on that topic is scant, and criminal psychology professionals have widely disparate theories regarding the origins of psychopathy.
Before discussing the psychology of human predators (which I intend to cover in the next segment), it may be instructive to analyze psychopathic-like behavior in the animal kingdom, and observe an entire species whose babies are genetically hardwired to lie, cheat, steal and kill from its first breath.

 Sociobiology (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy)
Linda Mealey (1995) identified hypothetical ancestral conditions that would have rendered sociopathy adaptive, namely the conditions in which social reciprocity evolved in human populations; this is an ‘ultimate’ explanation of the behavior.
Mealy's method involves identifying the biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors of sociopathy, linking these factors, distinguishing causal links from correlations, and showing how different developmental pathways are found in two types of sociopaths (hence, the term ‘two-pathway model’ of sociopathy).
Mealey's study of sociopathy is a study of the evolutionary significance of sociopathy in just this sense.
