Using Time Bands to Study Time
Bands of dates are always weak until they have shown application against modern headlines, especially if the band is thought to be prophetic.
Of course placement of the Sodom and Gomorrah date Band on the modern calendar depends on the placement of the day-for-a-year band, as did Noah's date Band during the Persian Gulf War, but that placement is subjective and based on a "hunch" until it has supporting headlines that confirm that placement.
Of course this band is speculative until seen be confirming headlines, but it likely correct as this is the end of the day-for-a-year band and the target of that running band's count down.

We are together for 10 years, and that is also the reason why we just called it Sodom, you know, because we are the band Sodom, with Bobby on the drums and Bernemann on the guitars, you know, and that's the reason why we just called it Sodom.
I think this band is getting really supported now and it's OK. But I want to get more respect from the magazines in Germany and from the promoters, whatever, because Sodom is a band who is still alive after 25 years, you know, and never stopped doing music.

The production of the disc is great for Sodom, even if it is a little dry; there is nothing structure that holds the band back from rocking as hard as they can, just as the band is not echoing through too loose of a structure on this disc.
Sodom has not lost a step since their first album, and the maturity that is shown on this disc should be enough of a reason to go out and find a copy of this disc.
The band could not hope for any better; this is an unqualified success for Sodom and should work well as a mandate to keep doing what they have been doing for all these years.

Formed in 1984 in Essen, Germany, Kreator (originally Tormentor) were one of the most influential European thrash outfits in terms of their impact on the emerging death metal genre (along with Sodom, Destruction, and Bathory).
Led by vocalist/guitarist Mille Petroza, they were also one of the few proto-death metal bands willing to experiment with the form or add any elements of individuality or subtlety.
Together with their countrymen Kreator and Sodom, Germany's Destruction constituted the dominating triumvirate of Teutonic thrash metal during the 1980's.

Of course, both groups share a similar presence, with Sodom frontman Tom Angelripper having a vocal timbre that is very similar to that of Slayer’s Tom Araya, but as the years have progressed, it must be noted that Sodom has branched out into being a different type of animal altogether.
The band’s current line-up of vocalist/bassist Angelripper, guitarist Bernemann and drummer Bobby Schottkowski has obviously spent a large amount of time in crafting this self-titled effort, as songs such as “Wanted Dead”, “Bibles And Guns” and “Blood On Your Lips” rage with a renewed viscosity, offering hammering rhythms and torrential strikes en masse.
However, the bulk of the material still possesses that signature Sodom sound and there’s an ample amount of thrashing present to appeal to the jean jacket/backpatch set.

Sodom has always forged on ahead though, and now well over two and a half decades after they helped start the German Thrash scene they have come to give us a brand new album they have simply given the title of "Sodom".
While "Sodom" may not have captured the spirit of "Agent Orange" or "Persecution Mania", it did manage to kick my ass from the beginning to the end of the album.
When you figure that 95% of the Thrash bands from the 80's have either broken up or have sold out by now, it sure is nice to see Sodom still sticking to their original Thrash roots.

Sodom were never a band to let technicality to get in the way of a good song.
Like those two legendary noisy three piece bands, the trio of musicians in Sodom may not be the best in their field, but working on Motorhead's "Sod it, it's only rock and roll" theory, produced some of the most ungodly thrash noise ever to make it to record.
When this was released in 1989, Sodom were moving away from the anti-Christian sentiments of earlier releases, having found a deeper vein of inspiration in railing against the stupidity of war.

This time I wasn’t going to miss Sodom again, not this time that they were filming the show for their upcoming dvd.
The reason that Koronzon didn’t play was because Sodom wanted much time to prepare the place for the filming of their dvd and they couldn’t give just 30 minutes at least for the guys to present us songs from their latest very good release.
And the time has come for the headliners Sodom from which everyone has high expectations that night because since they want to film the show for their dvd they are surely well prepared and with a decent setlist as well.

We are all familiar with concept albums and how, on rare occasions, the band in question will immerse themselves in the subject matter of the topic of which the album shall be dedicated.
I cannot think of one band who has dedicated themselves to this degree for such a purpose and I personally can't help but wonder whether this was really a necessary action given the wealth of subject matter available on this relatively recent conflict.
The band's obsession with warfare has led them to diversify they're songwriting to such a degree that this is one of the more professionally structured efforts the band has put forth.

Be it the early demo tapes, the In The Sign Of Evil-EP or the 1986 debut album Obsessed By Cruelty, Sodom intimidated the world at large from the very beginning.
Albums like Better Off Dead (1990) or Tapping The Vein (1992) manifested the success of the band, who, despite a number of personnel changes, managed to maintain their characteristic sound, mainly thanks to bassist and vocalist Tom Angelripper.
