Virus Reboot -- Recommendations and Resources   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-17)
ReBoot is considered by many as one of the greatest cartoons ever.
A hard reboot (also known as a cold reboot) is when power to a computer is cycled (turned on and off) or a special reset signal to the processor is triggered (from a front panel switch of some sort).
It is analogous to the process of rebooting a computer, clearing out all working memory and reloading the operating system from scratch; neglecting offline storage, none of the previous session's activities have any bearing on the product of the current session, except in the memory of the operator (writer).

The "rebooted" stories are then tied no further to the events or personalities portrayed in the original.

Annoyances.org - Windows Hangs after Soft Reboot (Windows XP Discussion Forum)
Yesterday my otherwise-stable XP box started hanging at the Windows splash screen, but only after a soft reboot, e.g., after choosing "Restart" from the XP shutdown menu, or after hitting the reset button on the box.
The hang occurs regardless of whether I'm booting in Normal Mode or in Safe Mode, and regardless of whether the restart was invoked from inside Windows XP or from a DOS program It appears that as long as the system boots from a soft reset XP will hang at the splash screen.
As the problem occurs only on a soft reboot it's reasonable to assume that either the RAM or the BIOS is at fault.
