Topic: Sohrab Sepehri

Persian modern poetry: Beh bagh e hamsafaran By: Sohrab Sepehri - به باغ همسفران - زنده یاد ...
Sohrab is one of those whose works give you something new if explored again with washed eyes.
Many have mentioned that Sohrab had great love for Buddha, which is true.
Sohrab has clearly admitted to be a Moslem, a Buddhist, and a Christian; although the latter is not well-known to the public (at least as far as I know).

One of the most acclaimed Iranian artists of the present era, Sohrab Sepehri was born in 1929 in the beautiful city of Kashan, on the border of the Great Iranian desert.
Sepehri had a Chinese-Japanese approach towards nature, and for long he was also inspired by short Japanese poems (hycoha) in his poetic language.
All said and done, Sepehri is the greatest contemporary poet of Iran and we can dare to state that few have portrayed nature, in words and in color, as skillfully as Sepehri.

 Sohrab's Way
Sohrab was born in 1928 to an aristocratic family, landed, but perhaps somewhat in decline, from Kashan, an ancient city between Tehran and Isfahan in central Iran.
Sohrab was actually born on a journey, in Qom, where his mother was travelling between Tehran and Kashan.
Sohrab's father was a daftari, a literate, office-working person; he was also a craftsman of the traditional tar or lute and thus enlightened in a prevailing religious atmosphere.

However, the work of Sepehri is representative in that it is, in fact, far more highly organized metrically than might be supposed from our own memories of ballyhoo about 'vers libre' on which T.S. Eliot was pronouncing, already definitively, in 1917.
Sepehri revised his work extensively throughout his life and grappled with form as a painter as well as a poet.
Sepehri's tone is habitually one of ambiguity, of delicate imprecision, which to an extent is abetted by the language itself.
