Sokobanja is one of the best known spas in Yugoslavia.

Sokobanja is situated in the southeast of Serbia, between mountains Ozren (117 m) and Rtanj (1560 m), on the riverbanks of Moravica, at the height of 400 m above the sea level.

Stevan Sremac (November 11, 1855, Senta – August 13, 1906, Sokobanja) was a Serbian realist and comedian writer.
He spent the early childhood in the native city and moved to studies in Belgrade after his parents died.
After the studies, he spent the rest of his life working as a teacher in Southern Serbia, in cities of Niš and Sokobanja.

In its protests at the assassination of Slavko Curuvija, the bombing of the Usce Business Centre and the tragic deaths of eight of its colleagues in the attack on Radio Television Serbia, ANEM has expressed the hope that attacks on journalists would cease, regardless of who committed them.

ANEM demands that the practice of confiscating newspapers, which for the past six months has affected not only Nezavisne Novine but also most of the Montenegrin independent press, stop immediately, as repression and ceaseless propaganda cannot remove the political, or other, responsibility of the authorities.
ANEM also warns the authorities that the continuation of repression against the independent media, especially in Sokobanja, could lead to civil outrage which would be difficult to control and demands that Television Soko be permitted to operate without hindrance.

Nebojsa Ristic, editor in chief of Soko Television, a private, independent TV station in the Serbian town of Sokobanja (near Nis), was sentenced on April 23, 1999, to one year of imprisonment for the "circulation of false statements" aimed at disturbing citizens during the state of war.
