The Sokoke (or African Shorthair) originates from the Sokoke Arabuke Forest on the Kenya coast, one of the few remaining but rapidly diminishing rainforests in East Africa (which itself supports many other endangered species, including six globally threatened birds).

Jenny got incurable cancer and had to move back to her homeland and that is when she took some of the Sokokes with her to see if her friends would try and save this little breed from extinction.
Two families have brothers and sisters who was not needed in the breeding program or had for some reason had to be spayed or retired.
We are hoping that someday the African government will make a habitat for the Sokoke to go back to but in the meantime we will enjoy them in our homes and our lives.
