Universal Soldier (1992 film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 1992 science fiction film Universal Soldier directed by Roland Emmerich stars Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren as soldiers who kill each other in Vietnam but are reanimated in a secret Army project along with a large group of other previously dead soldiers.
The film was followed by two television movie sequels in 1998 Universal Soldier II: Brothers in Arms and Universal Soldier III: Unfinished Business, and a theatrical sequel that ignored them (Universal Soldier: The Return) in 1999, with the only returning cast member to any being Van Damme for the latter.
Instead, the Unviersal Soldiers (or "UniSols") are called in, an elite counter terrorism unit, but Devreaux (now designated "GR44") and Scott (now designated "GR13") are among this team, apparently having been revived, but with no memories of their previous lives.

Soldier (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The film, classified as a thriller, starred Kurt Russell as Sgt. Todd, a soldier trained from birth.
Soldier is set within the same fictional universe as the 1982 cult science fiction film Blade Runner.
Director Paul W. Anderson states in the DVD commentary for the film that, in addition to the film being set in the same fictional universe as Blade Runner, Blade Runner was one of his primary influences when making the film and the themes and overall tone were meant to be similar.

Winter Soldier - The Film | About The Film
The film is a rare and raw telling, by soldiers in the war in Vietnam, of the training for and the experience of war, in which young men kill and do horrific things to other human beings, in the name of patriotism and comraderie.
The Winter Soldier Investigation was an attempt at the process of truth and reconciliation, initiated and carried out by veterans of the war in Vietnam and largely ignored by the government that was continuing to carry on that war.
The fact that this process of truth-telling was not respected and honored as a part of the experience of these soldiers is one of the reasons that the subject of the war in Vietnam continues to be misunderstood and misrepresented.

 Soldier of Fortune Decision
Soldier of Fortune, in my view, can be described as an interactive, animated "motion picture." Unlike other computer games such as Tetris or Scrabble, the action in Soldier of Fortune has a narrative and the participant adopts the role of one of the characters in the story.
For example, Soldier of Fortune depicts the agony and suffering of victims burning to death as the result of the protagonist's use of a flame-thrower.
Soldier of Fortune is an interactive, animated "motion picture." It is supposedly based upon the experiences of a real-life mercenary, "John F. Mullins," who is reported to have acted as a creative advisor to the film's producers.

Film Echoes the Present in Atrocities of the Past
When the film was finished a year later, it was shown at the Cannes and Berlin film festivals, at theaters in France and England, and on German television.
Kerry's friend, the filmmaker George Butler, used footage from "Winter Soldier" to lionize him in a biographical film underwritten by Democrats called "Going Upriver." His political enemies on the right, meanwhile, created a Web site called Wintersoldier.com and made a film of their own, "Stolen Honor," to assail him as a traitor and a fraud.
As polarizing as the film has proven to be, the filmmakers say they hope that a year removed from the context of a campaign, "Winter Soldier" will be seen the way it was originally intended.

 Laramie Movie Scope: Winter Soldier
Filmed during the Winter Soldier Investigation in Detroit, Mich., on January 31, February 1 and 2, 1971, “Winter Soldier” is a stark retelling of the horrors that soldiers witnessed during the long, bloody Vietnam war.
Several soldiers said that they were taught to regard all Vietnamese as “gooks.” As such, the natives were considered inhuman as a matter of course.
The Winter Soldiers were on the inside, the summer soldiers on the outside, in the cold Detroit winter.

Soldier of Orange was the first film made in the Netherlands that candidly addressed the ambiguity in the loyalties of the Dutch during the war.
Nevertheless, the film is noteworthy for its non-judgmental stance.
It's an honest film in that respect and one in which it is hard to distinguish the good guys from the bad – at least among the six college friends.

The film was directed by the legendary Frank Pierson, who was not afraid to show either the sexuality between the couple, or Barry’s violent death.
And as wonderfully as I feel the part was played by newcomer Lee Pace, this was once again another film where a transgendered woman was played by a non-transgendered man. This is not to slam Lee, who is especially good at capturing the pain and pathos of someone in the midst of a gender transformation.
This film was important to make, but the fact that roles like these still go to actors outside the transgendered community shows how far we still have to go.

Soldier Movie Review by Anthony Leong   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
"Soldier", at heart, is a reworking of the Western genre.
"Soldier" begins promisingly enough as an examination of a man rediscovering his humanity, doing his best to learn the rules of interaction after having lived his entire life in virtual isolation.
Instead of acting as a point of convergence for the various thematic threads introduced in the first two acts, or as a test as to how much Todd has been changed by his experiences, the third act is merely a cathartic exercise in pyrotechnics and bloodshed, discarding whatever promise the movie had.

Le Petit soldat / The Little Soldier / 1963 / film review / Jean-Luc Godard
This is probably the most shocking scene of any of Godard’s films, one which the critics were quick to condemn when the film was finally released.
The film makes no attempt to distinguish between extreme right and left wing politics, both are equally as valid or equally as flawed in Godard’s eyes.
This was indeed an accurate reflection of the mood in France at the time the film was made but was clearly not a view which the authorities were going to allow Godard to peddle in public cinemas, hence the enforced ban.

It was a critical and financial success, and probably the greatest of pacifist, anti-war films - the grainy fl and white film is still not dated and the film hasn't lost its initial impact.
The episodic film is still one of the few early sound films that modern audiences watch.
The film includes a series of vignettes and scenes that portray the senselessness and futility of war from the sympathetic point of view of the young German soldiers in the trenches in the Great War who found no glory on the battlefield, meeting only death and disillusionment.

Soldier begins in the year 1996, when Sergeant Todd is born.
Though the story, including the ultimate resolution, is quite obvious, the film's landscape, an apocalyptic garbage dump of a planet presented paradoxically beautiful in its harshness, and some brilliant pyrotechnic fight scenes make Soldier a fun Saturday afternoon matinee movie.
Soldier is violent; it has many bloody scenes, a number of grisly deaths, and some rather sadistic moments (these warriors, for instance, have no reservations shooting unarmed young children in combat situations).

The un-narrated film captures the testimony of dozens of Vietnam veterans, who detailed their experiences in the military and the horrors of the “American War,” as the Vietnamese called it.
Soldiers and veterans played a key role in ending the Vietnam War, through their antiwar activity in both the U.S. and Southeast Asia.
Winter Soldier is an amazingly relevant film, not only because it details what American wars of “liberation” actually mean for the people being “liberated,” also because it gives us insight into the experiences of soldiers fighting in Iraq today.

But unlike the best of that genre, "Soldier" lacks the ingredient that might have given it a fighting chance: a sense of humor.

Edward Leonski (Brown) was the first American soldier to be sentenced to death by a US military tribunal in World War II, convicted for the murder of three women while stationed in Australia.
Mora uses the trial in an attempt to examine the fragile relationship that existed between Americans and Australians during the war, and to demonstrate the need for due process of law.
But sadly for any intelligent treatment of these issues, the film concentrates on the depiction of the murders and the manhunt which ensued, with Melbourne presented as an outrageous Frat party for the GIs, while Coburn struggles with stilted dialogue and what would seem to be an inordinate amount of starch in his jockeys.
