  Rock Music - MSN Encarta
Rock musicians have pioneered new studio recording techniques, such as multi-tracking—a process of recording different song segments at different times and layering them on top of one another—and digital sampling, the reproduction by a computer of the patterns of a particular sound.
Rock and roll was a combination of the R&B (rhythm-and-blues music) style known as jump blues, the gospel-influenced vocal-group style known as doo wop, the piano-blues style known as boogie-woogie (or barrelhouse), and the country-music style known as honky tonk.
Another important center of rock music in the 1960s was Los Angeles, where film student Jim Morrison formed the group the Doors and guitarist and composer Frank Zappa developed a unique blend of risqué humor and complex jazz-influenced compositional forms with his group the Mothers of Invention.

Larry Norman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Although Norman was not the first, there were very few artists making Rock and Roll records with Gospel lyrics at the time, possibly because so many people associated rock music with secularism and hostility to traditional religious bodies.
Norman's albums were a mixture of hard rock styles, with lyrics that were usually very serious, but occasionally very silly, (especially when performing with his best friend Randy Stonehill, whose first albums in the early 1970s were produced by Norman).
In the late 1970s, Norman formed Solid Rock Records, which went on to release Stonehill's Welcome to Paradise and The Sky Is Falling, Daniel Amos' Horrendous Disc, Tom Howard's A View From The Bridge, and Mark Heard's Appalachian Melody among other titles from other artists and several of his own works.

When they were recorded, the band was at the peak of their popularity, thousands came to their concerts and the band was loved by the Christian press.
Solid Rock then leased the recordings from Word and Larry Norman, according to Platt, "began working on the final stages of the LP." Part of this involved dropping two songs and recording two new cuts, "I Love You #19" and "Hound of Heaven".
The band may have taken a copy of the record to Hawaii while they were there for a series of concerts, but Platt states that they did not hear the record until the spring of 1980 and were then surprised that it was not the correct track listing and a song was dropped.

 Larry Norman - Bio
This “golden age of Solid Rock” was still in full flower, and Larry was getting ready to sign with Warner Brothers when he was involved in the airplane accident of 1978 which injured his spine, neck, and skull - and caused him partial brain damage and silenced his literate voice for the next twelve years.
Musically, with Solid Rock and later Street Level Records and Phydeaux, Larry was avoiding traditional industry concepts and creating a new direction which many other bands would gravitate toward in the next decade: the alternative, independent record label.
So Solid Rock has set up a way for people to donate money to Larry’s medical needs and he has been going to different doctors for medical help that falls outside the seemingly arbitrary limitations of his insurance policy.

Solid Rock was founded by Larry Norman, one of the more interesting characters coming out of the 1960s rock and roll scene.
When the "gospel rock" boomlet that he played a role in starting hit the charts in 1969, Capitol asked him back hat-in-hand, and he recorded Upon This Rock, a solo album of "Jesus Rock" that is often cited as being one of the roots of the current Contemporary Christian Music.
The Solid Rock logo was a design Norman had come up with back in the 1960s, a play on the two different words agape (wide open) and agape (uh-GAH-pay; an often used Biblical word for God's selfless love).
