The school's chapel, consecrated in 1960, was dedicated to St Mary and St Katherine to reflect the school's origins.
In the 17th century it became a boarding school, and in 1879 the charitable estate from which the school had been funded was devoted solely to educational purposes.
The school's (12-sided) quadrangle and surrounding classrooms, as well as the former hall, known as Big School, were built after this period, and were followed by a chapel and large teaching block and sports hall, amongst other additions.

SOLIHULL School has hit back angrily at claims it is under investigation over fee fixing.
If allegations against Solihull School were found to be true it is believed the educational institution, which includes a sixth form, could have to pay out up to £2 million.
A spokesman for the OFT confirmed they were looking at a number of schools accused of fee fixing but refused to name any of them or their locations.

Saint Martin’s school in Solihull celebrated the old and the new this week as former Head Girl and Whitbread First Novel award winner Susan Fletcher was welcomed back to her old school by new Headmistress, Jane Carwithen.
The Ofsted report, based on an inspection of the school in January this year, highlights “very good “ teaching, “very good” progress made by the girls in all areas of the curriculum and states that the girls are “extremely confident”, “show an excitement and enthusiasm in their learning” and “behave very well”.
Girls in Years 9 and 10 at Saint Martin’s School in Solihull and boys of the same age from Solihull School, took part in a joint German schools exchange visit with pupils from the Elisabethenschule in Hofheim, which is in Solihull’s twinned area of Mein-Taunus-Kreis.
