"SOLO ALBUM SETS PERRY FREE"; Faces Magazine 1984
But Perry hinted that, having recorded a solo album and savored freedom, he may not be as happy in Journey as he used to be.
When Journey assembles this fall to record the next album there is likely to be tension between Perry and a member who doesn't like his solo album.  He declined to name the dissenter.  All that he would say is that it's not drummer Steve Smith.
The group may be sorry that Perry did a solo album.  If Street Talk is very successful, he may eventually decide a solo career is preferable to singing with Journey.  Such a decision would be disastrous for the band.  Perry's vocals are integral to the band's identity.  He's the only indispensable member.

JohnK's Tull Reviews: Ian Anderson Solo Albums
The album appears to be Ian Anderson's attempt to experiment somewhat with non-traditional acoustic and electric guitar music, and there is evidence of the computer drum kits and other modern technology on this record.
The songs on the album deal with all manner of subjects, ranging from computers and their place in our lives ("User-Friendly") to songs about trains and the way in which travel on trains can be equated to going through life ("Trains"), to the changing nature of Germany and its people ("Different Germany").
The album is pretty much the sophisticated view of religions and the nature of God that Ian Anderson wanted to portray, and is not his personal religious beliefs, as he has had to explain many times.

That's kind of refreshing seeing that the previous band albums all had those, and it's good that Jon didn't force himself to write one that kind of song on his solo record.
And the standard quality of the album is weaker than that of any band or solo album for some time.

KISS Asylum: Black Diamond - Excerpts4
Recent interviews with Gene and Paul clearly state that the solo albums were done as a result of Ace and Peter wanting to leave the band in order to do solo albums.
In claiming such, both Gene and Paul usually thrust upon the idea that the solo albums, usually considered the breaking-point for the original line-up of the band, were mainly Peter's and Ace's doing and that they had little to do with it.

After 10 years as frontman for Petra, John ventured forth with his first solo album, "SHAKE," in 1995.
Amidst rumors of his leaving Petra, it was made perfectly clear that John not only would remain with Petra, but that he was fully capable of pursuing a solo career simultaneously – a feat no other lead singer in the Christian industry had ever attempted.
A very diverse album musically, "SWINE" showcases John’s versatility as a vocalist, with elements of alternative and modern rock in a surprising blend that rages with intensity and drive.

Too long to be an EP but too short to be an album, Solo is a modestly priced sneak preview collector's item intended to satisfy the curiosity of fans and to get the word out about the new releases coming out later this year.
Solo features two songs from each member's upcoming project, as well as a live version of the group covering the U2 classic "40" (as in Psalm 40).

I've always felt that Eddie's career as a soloist was never given its proper due because in the eyes of the industry, his work with the Temptations seemed to supercede everything he did on his own, and that was truly not fair.
These four albums are chock full of quality material by Eddie, all produced by the team of Frank Wilson and Leonard Caston (except Eddie's debut LP, which was produced by Wilson alone).
But due to the timing of the tracks on that album, BOOGIE DOWN couldn't be included here...but it will be in the next volume of Eddie's works, which will be released later on in '06.
