General Meredith was born in North Carolina in 1810 and traveled by foot to Indiana, arriving at Cambridge City on May 5th, 1829.
Meredith, active in political life, was host on many occasions to men of note and distinction.
Meredith was the daughter of Samuel Hannah of Centerville, who was Secretary of State, and was a most gracious hostess and the handsome double parlors of splendid colonial type were the scene of many social events.

During the fighting against Stonewall Jackson at Brawner's Farm, Cutler was severely wounded in the right thigh, causing him to miss the Maryland Campaign and the Battle of Antietam.
