National university - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There is no national university as such in the United States, but American University is considered the nearest thing as it was set up many years after George Washington expressed a desire for an "national university," and it was later chartered by an Act of the United States Congress.
For instance the National University of Ireland in the early days of Irish independence collected a large amount of information on the Irish language and Irish culture.
National universities are often closely associated with national cultural or political aspirations.

 WEP-Somalia
The National University of Somalia has been closed indefinitely.
Two grading scales were in use at the National University: a 0 — 100% scale on which the lowest passing grade was 60% and a grading scale based on the Italian system in which all subjects were marked out of a possible maximum of 30 with 18 as the lowest passing mark.
University study consists of four-year programmes leading to the bachelor’s degree or laurea.

 SOMALIA 1999 HUMAN DEVELOPMENT
Somalia’s main productive sectors (primarily livestock and agriculture), already weak before the civil war, have been damaged in the course of the country’s ten years of armed conflict and state collapse; Somalia's national income is about 60% of pre-war levels.
Somalia is located in the eastern portion of the Horn of Africa, covering a total land area of some 637,540 square kilometres (roughly the area of France).
Somalia’s public education system had already virtually ceased functioning by the mid-1980s; second generations of young people have lost access to education in the course of the decade of State collapse in the 1990s.

Mogadishu - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mogadishu is the seat of the Somalia National University.
It is the largest city in Somalia and the nominal seat of a provisional national authority, but no effective government has existed in the country for over a decade.
The city is the seat of the internationally-recognized Transitional National Government, ostensibly an interim government for the entire nation of Somalia whose practical influence does not extend beyond a few blocks from its headquarters.

Somalia Looks To Make Fresh Start
"If there were no war, I would be a doctor," said Abdullahi Isak Suubow, who was to have enrolled in Somalia's National University in the year the troubles began.
This "city of death," as it became known during Somalia's civil war, with its vandalized statues and young men in pickup trucks tricked out with anti-aircraft guns, is about to become the seat of the country's new government – the first in a decade.
Somalia's neighbors have accepted the deal worked out in Djibouti, and the new president was cheered when he toured the country a month ago.

 INHEA: Somalia Higher Education Profile
After a military coup in 1969, all foreign entities were nationalized, including the university, which was renamed Jaamacada Ummadda Soomaliyeed (the National University of Somalia, or NUS).
A major devastating impact of the civil war in Somalia was the destruction of the Somali National University (SNU) and other institutions that offered post-secondary education.
On September 22, 1997, Mogadishu University (MU) in Somalia became a recognized private university in the absence of a functioning government in Mogadishu.

 Somalia @ National Geographic Magazine
After Barre was driven out by a national rebellion early in 1991, political power over most of Somalia fell into the hands of feuding warlords, who, like grand dukes from the European Middle Ages, deployed their private armies to battle for power even as hundreds of thousands of other Somalis were dying of hunger.
Somalia appears to be the very definition of what we call a failed state.
Draped around the Horn of Africa, its coasts washed by the Indian Ocean to the east and the Gulf of Aden to the north, Somalia is for the most part an arid land with only two permanent rivers, one of which dries up intermittently.
