Somersault - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A somersault (sometimes somerset) is an acrobatic feat in which a person tucks in mid-air and moves the feet over the head.
The somersault can be performed either forwards, backwards, or sideways and is synonymous with a flip (or, if performed backwards, backflip).
A back flip is commonly associated with back somersault, yet a backflip is technically a back handspring which uses the arms to sustain the person performing the move.

Somersault is an Australian independent movie, written and directed by Cate Shortland and released in September 2004.

There she meets Joe (played by Sam Worthington), the son of a local farmer and she tries to form a relationship with him, despite his difficulty in expressing his emotions.

 Learning How to Twist Fast
The orientation of a gymnast during a twisting somersault may be described by the angles of somersault, tilt and twist (Figure 1).
In the twisting somersault shown in the lower sequence the situation is different since the right arm is lowered at around the quarter twist position and this changes the somersault angle slightly rather than the tilt angle.
A straight double somersault with two twists may be produced in the same way by using slight more arm asymmetry in the first somersault and adducting the arms close to the body (Figure 19).

Those who haven't understood Somersault's main themes or appreciated it as a perceptive piece of film-making may well be afflicted with the same delusional shortcomings of its characters: an inability to connect with others, or to have them connect with you.
The central theme of Somersault is young males, females and how they dance around each other in the search for intimacy, almost always failing and causing each other enormous pain in the process.
Somersault plays like one long life-lesson, though its themes and implications are timeless and universal for all young people.

In Somersault (the title refers to an abrupt, public renunciation of the past), Kenzaburo Oe has himself leapt in a new direction, rolling away from the slim, semi-autobiographical novel that garnered the 1994 Nobel Prize (A Personal Matter) and toward this lengthy, involved account of a Japanese religious movement.
Permeating the entire story is the Somersault like some shadow, and different groups' responses to it and the new movement come in for some heavy discussion among the various characters.
It is a dense depiction of the rise, fall, and subsequent rise of a religious cult.
