The Song Dynasty (宋朝, previous spelling Sung) (420-479) was first of the four Southern Dynasties in China, followed by the Qi Dynasty.
The dynasty is often called the Southern Song Dynasty (南宋) or Liu Song Dynasty (劉宋) to distinguish it from a later Song Dynasty (960-1279) of China that is much more famous and significant.
