The action in Songs of Susannah is not long waited for, as Eddie and Roland are transported into the time and location they were traveling to in order to find Calvin Tower and follow through on the purchase of the important vacant lot in New York where the rose grows.
Overall, Song of Susannah is an excellent story and great continuation of the saga, but it does have some drawbacks where it feels like Stephen King is just mailing it in, as if he is lost, and doesn't know exactly where to go next.

Short as it is compared with the previous books, "Song Of Susannah" is rich in its storyline and cleverly ties in almost all of the previous events laying the ground for the final book to complete this epic journey.
Song of Susnnah suffers from none of this, and the book is an action packed thrill-ride from start to finish.

Song of Susannah answers some questions, most particularly, the surprising revelation of who the father of Susannah/Mia's baby is, and some remarkable characterisation of the internal conflict between the multiple personalities.
In that respect I wasn't at all disappointed- there's a tangible sense of urgency and pinch in Song of Susannah, and you are on teeterhooks with all three threads which run through it.
Whilst Susannah fights a losing battle with her alter-ego Mia as the demented mother carries her/them and their sinister baby into the lion's den, Jake and his new companion Constanti- sorry, Callahan miserably rush to what they know is a belated cavalry charge.
