March 11, 2002 - Nicole C. Mullen: Talk About It
She is the first African-American to win a Dove Award in the Song of the Year category and finds herself ministering and performing in places that most African-Americans have never ventured.
This song, that would be good for an ensemble, makes one look within and then outward, realizing the overwhelming feeling of mortality and the weakness that lies within it.
On a positive note, her slow songs are deep and devotional and propel one into a spirit of worship.

This is one of the louder songs on the album, but still quite tame for the most part, and invites you to come into the House of God.
Every song is based on some sort of Scripture or Spiritual truth seldom found in some Christian music.

The song deals with sadness - it's a personal reminder for Nicole that there is no reason for her to be down.
What bogs this one down for me is that Nicole seems so busy trying to get across the emotion of her lyrics (and the song really is an inspiring one) that she doesn't follow the beat as well as she does on some of the other songs.
The song deals a lot with history, not flinching away from the fact that many African Americans are in America due to slavery, but also noting that fls and whites fought together in the Civil War (at least I think that's where she's going with it).

After the huge success of the Dove Award-winning Song of the Year, Redeemer, singer-songwriter Nicole C. Mullen has become a star on the rise, but she probably doesn't consider herself to be that.
Nicole was the first female in over a decade to win the Dove Award for Songwriter of the Year because of Redeemer.
With Talk About It, there are several songs that further illuminate her talent at writing well-written songs, like the first radio single, Call On Jesus, which is in the same vein as Redeemer.
