SPACE.com -- The Music of Black Holes
A CD of fl hole music most likely can't compete with Britney Spears or the Soggy Bottom Boys, but a new study shows these venerable gravity instruments produce complex tunes whose underlying principles are remarkably similar to pop, bluegrass, classical or any other style you might think of.
The music of a fl hole is generated in the region just outside the fl hole proper, where incoming matter is accelerated to near-the-speed-of-light just before being swallowed.
The notes and pauses are roughly the same in faraway supermassive fl holes, which can weigh more than a billion stars, as they are in comparatively puny stellar fl holes, which are typically just a few times as massive as the Sun and are found here in our own galaxy.

 CNN.com - Black hole findings yield new mysteries - Jul 10, 2006
Stellar fl holes, formed from the death and gravitational collapse of a massive star, weigh in at 10 to 20 solar masses.
The existence of this galactic fl hole had been suspected for decades, but atmospheric turbulence had prevented clear images of activity very near the behemoth.
Similar observations by a European group in 2002 confirmed the mass of the fl hole and the fact that in theory at least, it can't be anything but a fl hole.

 CNN.com - Black holes are actually 'green' - Apr 24, 2006
Black holes are regions of space where gravity is so strong that matter and light can't escape once they pass the event horizon, a spherical boundary surrounding the fl hole.
The new study looked at nine supermassive fl holes at the centers of elliptical galaxies; each one was about a billion times more massive than our sun.
As they race outwards from their parent fl holes at nearly light speed, the jets carve out enormous cavities, or "bubbles," in the surrounding gas environment; some of these bubbles can be tens of thousands of light years across.

Its POSSIBLE that some of the "fl hole" songs were "upgraded" with a new recording here, and replaced on the cassette with fresh recorded demos of the same tracks.
Some of the songs were in fact rehersed as a band, some were played out live, and some made it all the way to the second weezer album- although by then the album concept was quite different.
By Spring '96 "fl hole" had bitten the dust, as the songs "Across the Sea", "Falling for You", and "Butterfly" had come, and the "Pinkerton" concept had crystalized.

Immediately these songs were hailed as ‘classic weezer,’ especially “Blast Off!” and “Longtime Sunshine.” The shifting dynamics, the strong singing, the interesting melodies and lyrics, and the overall sound all hearkened back to the ‘good old days.’ The recordings were primarily the 8-track demos recorded by Rivers in 1994 and 1995.
In September 2003, the song was ‘leaked’ from the compilation and the fans had a new piece of the puzzle.
Songs From The Black Hole was written at a time in Rivers’ life where he was possibly his most inspired, creative, and skilled at his craft.

"Songs from the Black Hole" went on as a mystery - no one has heard the big picture besides Rivers Cuomo, probably his bandmates at the time (Matt Sharp, Brian Bell, Patrick Wilson) and one Karl Koch, who I have had the pleasure of interviewing for this site on one occassion.
But then many outside the Weezer circle (bandmates and Karl) learned of "Songs from the Black Hole" and fascination was born.
And that is where we're at today, with less than half the album in our grasp and no closer to hearing the entire Epic known as "Songs from the Black Hole".

While Love Tractor's 2001 reunion album, The Sky at Night, featured three-quarters of the group's original lineup, only guitarist Mike Richmond is on board for Black Hole; he also produced the sessions and wrote the material, so it's no great shock that this has a decidedly different sound and feel than the band's previous recordings.
If you were hoping for Love Tractor's distinct and energizing fusion of jangle and groove, you're out of luck; instead, Black Hole is dominated by slower tempos, harder guitar lines, grander melodic figures, and a greater degree of aural experimentation, including plenty of keyboards and periodic interjections of violin and sitar.
Black Hole possesses enough sonic daring to make it a worthy listen, but plenty of longtime Love Tractor enthusiasts are likely to find this album a puzzling and unsatisfying experience.

Rivers compiled the second tracklist using several newly recorded songs and one mid 1994 demo that was not previously part of the album concept, and took out numerous songs that apparently were no longer needed, either due to their new status as 'real' second album songs, or due to simple creative changes of heart.
Note: these songs are not officially on either tracklist but were worked on along with the rest of the SFTBH tracks at the time.
Over the years several petitions have been started with the aim of making the band release the lost "Black Hole" demos much in the same way the ss2k songs were released; the most recent petition was launched by Weezer fans on November 27th, 2005, with the goal of reaching 1000 signatures.

I don’t know if ‘367′ was to be the finished song, or whether it was just the number of the song, seeing as every song is numbered and 367 would be about where they were up to at this point.
This is the song that closest matches the style of “current” Weezer, meaning it’s weaker than most of the ones here, but as current Weezer goes, it’s actually pretty good.
Unfortunately the mp3 has rough cuts at the start and finish of the song, as this is where it would have merged straight into the other songs.

By the middle of the year, he had a rough tracklist of around 16 songs in mind (although the finished album would undoubtedly have contained more songs than this, and some of the songs would have been no longer than a minute or so), and was developing the album's story.
Nearly all of the demos that we've been lucky enough to hear are top-notch songs, particularly YWGWMT and "Longtime Sunshine", and that impression is only enhanced by looking at the eventually-recorded songs that would have been a part of it, such as "Tired Of Sex", "Why Bother?", "No Other One" and "Devotion".
All of a sudden, though, learning that those songs were intended to be part of a narrative, and therefore are written by Rivers in the third person rather than being about himself, adds a whole new complexion to them.
