The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame was established by the Nashville Songwriters Foundation, Inc. in Nashville, Tennessee in the United States.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame is an arm of the National Academy of Popular Music.
At each annual event, gifted and promising songwriters are awarded a scholarship called the Abe Olman Publisher's Award for Excellence in Songwriting, named for one of the founding members.
In 2004, they inaugurated the Starlight Award, to be given to young songwriters that have already made a lasting impact on music.

The climax of the evening was to be the presentation of the Hall of Fame award to Leonard Cohen by former governor-general Adrienne Clarkson.
As he told the audience at the Hall of Fame ceremony: "If I knew where the good songs came from, I would go there more often." As it is, Cohen often spends up to four years, on and off, working on a single song ("Hallelujah" being a classic example) before he deems it satisfactory.
Cohen and five of his songs were inducted into the Hall of Fame on Feb. 5, in a ceremony where he was honoured by fellow musicians k.d.

 Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame Launches
The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame (CSHF) made a splash announcement Sept. 24 at Toronto's Club 279, introducing its first inductees: Gordon Lightfoot, Félix Leclerc, Hank Snow, Madame Bolduc and Alfred Bryan.
In addition to the individual inductees, the CSHF announced the induction of 12 of the most influential Canadian songs of all time (from "Red River Valley" to "Born to Be Wild").

On Thursday I had the distinct pleasure, as one of the occasional perks through my employer, to attend the show portion of the 2004 Award & Induction Ceremony at the Songwriters Hall of Fame last Thursday.
Hall & Oates performed a rousing version of one of their first hits, She's Gone.
Neil Sedaka received the Sammy Cahn Lifetimne Achievement Ward and his hit, Laughter in the Rain (you remember, that paen to sex on wet grass under a tree at the risk of being struck by lightning) was sung very well by Eric McCormack of Will & Grace.
