  Sonic Mega Collection
Sonic Mega Collection Plus is basically the same as its Gamecube counterpart only with some added features and more games to boot.
Sonic Mega Collection Plus has a number of fantastic games on it that will have you coming back for more every so often, but these games have been released in previous collections already, and the omission of Sonic CD (considered the best Sonic to date) and Knuckles & Chaotix, while expected, is a letdown.
If Sonic Team were to spend less time releasing ports, and concentrated more on getting more original games, or sequels to their already good number of franchises and series, they may still be as good as they were when these games were originally released.

Sonic on a Nintendo system would seem like a sacrilegious idea just a few short years ago, but now Sega disproves their own marketing slogan.
Sonic Mega Collection is essentially all the Genesis (or Mega Drive, outside of the US) Sonic titles in one little GC disc.
While a great collectible, the Sonic Mega Collection is still full of games that most of us fans still probably own in one form or another and it is also a bit too similar to Sonic Jam.

"The Next Level" Game Review - Sonic Mega Collection
Seven Sonic games rolled up into one package is reason enough to check out Sonic Mega Collection, but throw in hidden games and loads of extras and you'd have to be down-right delirious not to try it out.
Sonic the Hedgehog is Sega's one-and-only mascot character; he's blue, fast, and sported all sorts of early 90s 'tude back when his premiere game hit in 1991.
Sonic 3 also stands out as the largest game of them all, and when combined with Sonic and Knuckles could possibly be the biggest platformer ever.

 IGN: GameCube Review
Sonic Mega Collection shows us gamers why the Genesis was so great, why the franchise dipped into its lowest denominator, why Sega fails as a developer, and also why Nintendo manages to remain profitable after all these years.
Mega Collection is a history lesson as well as a collection of a few classics and a few mediocre efforts.
Sonic’s 3-D Blast would start the downfall of the franchise for sure, the moment this came out, it was the end of good 2-D Sonic games as we know it.

I think that sonic mega collection was a good thing to make, because it made a decent amount of money and taught the younger generation what the orignals were like.
The games in mega collection actually outshine 95% of the platform rubbish that gets released on the GBA and GC today, a testament to the fact that Sonic 3 and Knuckles is as good today as it was 11 years ago.
I'm looking forward to Gems Collection because not only have they shown pictures of large galleries, but they include the games I never got to play (that well at least.) I can't wait to try Fighters and it will be nice to play CD and R for the first time with a good frame rate.

The term "Mega" might be a stretch, but Sonic Mega Collection does offer a nice collection of classic Sonic games for your GameCube.
As it stands, SMC gives you the cover art to the Sonic comic books, a few illustrations of some Sonic characters, and five movies (only one of which, in my opinion, was worth a darn, and that was History of Sonic).
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was big news back in its time, and introduced a lot of new gameplay features to the mix, not to mention the ability to save your game -- a first for a cartridge Sonic.

Sonic is still a nippy little bugger and the levels still have an immediate zoom-through fun factor that the Mario games never had.
If you enjoyed the old Sonic titles or just feel the need to find out what us old fogies played back in the early 90s, then this is a must-buy, as long as you can afford to part with money for what is basically old rope.

Review - Sonic Mega Collection // Gamecube /// Eurogamer
The idea of seven Sonic games on one tiny piece of at the time unheard of proprietary media, sold for £30 at the average games shop, was even wackier.
Sonics 1-3 and Sonic and Knuckles are of course traditional left-to-right, fast-as-you-can platform jaunts, and remain mostly intact (and brilliant - they're occasionally brainless but always entertaining).
It's been original Sonic content only on GBA so far, and this title is a vastly preferable alternative to a myriad Sonic Advances in the style of Nintendo's Mario rehashes.

Beyond that, the sheer speed of Sonic makes you happy to have a system that can handle some good ol' "blast processing," a concept Sega rammed down our throats during the Genesis days.
Blast is Traveller's Tales valiant yet decidedly fun-free attempt to bring Sonic into an isometric environment, while Sonic Spinball serves more as a straight-up attempt by Sega to milk a successful franchise by placing the character into a pinball game.

The Sonic games were never remembered for their challenging gameplay, I actually had a friend who claimed to have finished Sonic 2 with his feet.
Sonic 1-3 and Sonic n' Knuckles are pretty much all the same game anyway, Sonic Spinball and Sonic 3D (not actually in 3D, mind) were no good when they were released in the first place…in fact the best game by today's standards here is Puyo-Puyo clone, Dr. Robotniks Mean Bean machine.
Sonic Mega Collection is a nice idea, as all retro collections generally are, but it simply reminds you of how far games have come since Sonics hey-day.

While an incomplete overview of Sonic’s past titles, the promise of more was enough to satiate me at the time, and the collection was a good introduction to what made SEGA’s mascot such a beloved character.
The point in pretty much al of the Sonic games on the disc is to get from the left side of the screen to the right (in great videogame platforming tradition) as fast as possible while collecting (the other great platforming tradition) as many rings as possible.

Sonic Mega Collection Plus (Xbox) Reviews. Xbox Games Reviews by CNET.
Sonic Mega Collection Plus starts you off with Sonics 1 through 3, Sonic and Knuckles (along with a simulation of that game's cartridge-piggybacking feature), Sonic Spinball, the abysmal Sonic 3D Blast, and the Puyo Puyo-inspired Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.
Sonic Spinball is still characterized by the same slowdown that hindered it when it was packaged with the first Genesis redesign, the Genesis 2.
Sonic CD (for the Sega CD) and Sonic the Fighters (for the Sega Saturn) might have rounded out the collection nicely, as both these games are well loved by Sonic's diehard fan base, although it's much easier to make a case for the former game rather than for the latter.

Sega gives gamers the chance to revisit their Sonic memories with Sonic Mega Collection on the GameCube, a collection (minus one) of the greatest Sonic games of the 16 and 32-bit era.
Sonic Mega Collection brings together seven of our Hedgehog hero’s best games (with a few hidden non-Sonic titles) on one CD, and thankfully the fun that was had playing a Sonic game remains firmly intact in this great collection.
Okay, so the story of a blue hedgehog that has to defeat an evil mad robot-o-doctor while collecting golden rings and rescuing trapped animals is a little bizarre, but the action of dashing at sonic-boom speed through large and loopy level after large and loopy level still remains an entertaining gaming romp.

Although, here's something: if you do fancy buying SMC Plus and you already own Sonic Heroes, it might be an idea to buy it for the same system, as the presence of Heroes save data apparently unlocks a couple of the games straight away.
It doesn't have the loved/hated Sonic CD, which is the only one you probably don't already own (except for Sonic Drift Into A Coma), and otherwise these are pixel-perfect ports, right down to the slowdown, and are no replacement for the real thing.
Anybody who remembers Sonic's 16-bit outings the way we do will love playing through them again and watching the series progress from its radically inventive beginnings through to the blisteringly speedy latter stages, picking up chargeable spin dash moves and layers and layers of graphical detail on the way.
