That was the Waylon era, '79-'84, the Crickets opening for and guesting their ol' alum.
Curtis, living "hand-to-mouth," used to hitchhike north to what music history today records as an archeological hub out of which was birthed a quantum leap in rock & roll evolution.

"I Fought The Law" was written by Sonny Curtis of the Crickets and recorded by them on May 18, 1959 at Bell Sound Studio in NYC.
Although police ruled his death a suicide, friends speculated that he was murdered, possibly by mobsters.
The Crickets version is available on the Bear Family CD "Still In Style" (BCD 15599 AH) and the Bobby Fuller version on the Del Fi CD "The Best Of The Bobby Fuller Four" (Del Fi R2 70174).

Jerry joined the drummer and co-founder of the Crickets, Jerry Allison, lead guitarist, Sonny Curtis, and pianist, Glen D. Hardin, to re-form the Crickets in the fall of 1960.
Jerry was the lead singer of the Crickets on most of the Liberty/EMI Records recordings and Crickets' concert dates until he left the group for a solo career in 1965.
