Marin and Sonoma Board members agreed to direct staff to draft letters to be signed by both Boards in support of legislation to provide additional transportation funding and to amend the State Constitution to change the two- thirds majority requirement for passage of a transportation sales tax.

In 1998, half-cent county sales taxes for transportation in Marin and Sonoma were rejected after the city of Larkspur refused to let passenger trains on the Northwestern Pacific tracks paralleling Highway 101 connect to its ferry landing, which in turn would've linked riders to San Francisco.

The bill includes the structure and purpose of the Joint Policy Committee, adds the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to the membership, and requires both the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the Association of Bay Area Governments to provide reports to the committee by January 1, 2006 on functional integration of the two agencies.

Here in the North Bay, the Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit Commission is planning a rail line that would span from Cloverdale in the north to the ferry to San Francisco in the south.
There are currently 62 rails with trails in the United States, with 150 more planned for the future.
