		The Radio Academy is a registered charity that acts as a professional body for the radio industry in the United Kingdom.
		Often referred to as 'the Sony Awards' (after their principal sponsor), the awards celebrate everything from the biggest and best national radio shows to small shows by local stations.

		Radio 1 had reason to celebrate at the Sony Radio Awards on Monday night, winning five gold awards, including News Programme of the Year and the Feature Award.

		Two of the national commercial DAB digital radio stations have been nominated in the Sony Radio Academy Awards, otherwise known as the radio ‘Oscars’, so Digital One, the national commercial digital radio multiplex operator, is celebrating twice over.
		Oneword Radio, a station devoted to bringing books, plays and comedy alive on air, and PrimeTime Radio, Saga’s national DAB digital radio station aimed at the over 50s, will be competing for the coveted award, alongside BBC 1Xtra.
		Last year, PrimeTime Radio’s sister station carried off the Sony, so it would be great to have another for the other side of the mantelpiece.
