Sophie Okonedo traces a large arc from impish delight, bright-smiling and dimpling, to aimless misery.
Sophie Okonedo is bewitching and intelligent as Shahrazad, and somehow manages to create such a believable character from the slim frame of her narration that her final speech to the king had half the audience in tears.
Sophie Okonedo's fiery Rosaura is a model of good sense and contempt for boorishness, so much so that my notes read "I hope she doesn't marry him." alas, the inevitable has to happen and the play must depart from a sound psychology for the sake of theatrical algebra.

 Sophie Okonedo
Born in London to a Nigerian father and a British mother, Okonedo was 18 years old when she came across an advertisement for a writer's workshop in Time Out magazine.
It didn't take long for Okonedo to realize that she was more proficient in offering dramatically rendered readings of her fellow classmate's stories than penning her own, and with the encouragement of writing coach Hanif Kureishi, the aspiring actress was soon honing her skills at the Royal Court Theater.
Despite Okonedo's increasing exposure abroad on screens both large and small, it was her touching turn as a sympathetic prostitute in Frears' dark thriller Dirty Pretty Things (2002) that proved to be her breakout role in film.

Blogcritics.org: Don Cheadle and Sophie Okonedo in Hotel Rwanda: A View from the West
Given the movie's subject it seems trivial to say so, but the best reason to see Hotel Rwanda is to watch Don Cheadle as Paul and Sophie Okonedo as his wife Tatiana.
Okonedo was the standout in Stephen Frears's Dirty Pretty Things last year (click here for my review), but Cheadle has been around for a decade without landing a role that built on his exciting breakthrough performance in Devil in a Blue Dress (1995).
Cheadle and Okonedo's faces are so sensitively mobile as they play off each other that the pleasure they give you as actors is almost comic.

Paul immediately taps into the money he has stored up to save his Tutsi wife, Tatiana (Sophie Okonedo), and their children.
While Denzel Washington (who has already played another African hero, Stephen Biko) would be the first name normally mentioned for this sort of role, Cheadle proves to be every bit as talented—and ultimately more believable, as he has less star wattage to distract audiences from the character.
As his wife Tatiana, British actor Sophie Okonedo (Dirty Pretty Things) shares an natural chemistry with Cheadle and has some of the most beautiful reactions I've ever seen on camera.

In the second quarter of 1994, while much of the world was gearing up to the World Cup to be held in Los Angeles, one of history’s deadliest wholesale slaughters of human beings was taking place in Central Africa.
