Some sopranos are pitched in the key of C, but they are not very common.

This was an important step in my life, not only because of the soprano (although in the final analysis that was the most enduring aspect of that gig), but due to the fact that this band placed all the musicians on salary meaning this was a full time job.
As for the soprano, I just never thought of playing it and when the Ten Wheel Drive gig occurred, I still thought of myself as a tenor player who doubled on soprano along with the other reeds I played at the time.
The soprano is not an easy instrument to use as a "double", meaning only on a few occasions, like the clarinet or flute for example.

Sidney Bechet grew up in a musical family, and all of his four brothers played instruments; Leonard (Victor) Bechet (1886-1952) was briefly a professional trombonist before becoming a dentist, and his son, Leonard, Jr.
Bechet first discovered the curved soprano saxophone in Chicago; while in London he purchased a straight model and taught himself to play it.
The soprano, although difficult to play in tune, has a powerful, commanding voice, and with it Bechet was able to dominate jazz ensembles.

Which neck do you use the most on your soprano saxophone a straight neck or a bent neck and why?
I really don't notice much difference in sound or intonation between the 2, but with the curved neck, the horn is angled down more toward my feet and closer to my body.
With my long arms, the straight neck puts the horn at a more comfortable angle for me. The first soprano I played was an old Conn New Wonder Series II straight soprano, and I suppose I just got used to holding the horn a certain way.
