The Sorbs are a Slavic minority indigenous to the region known as Lusatia in the German states of Saxony and Brandenburg (in former GDR territory).
The Lusatian Sorb National Council in Bautzen was the main force behind this movement, succeeding in convincing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Prague to forward memoranda to Moscow, urging Czechoslovak military occupation of Lusatia.
On November 11, 1989, at the downfall of the socialist government, the Sorb National Assembly gathered, demanding the GDR authorities to establish a dialogue with the Sorbs and decisive changes in the state-run 'Domowina'.

Most Sorbs still live in rural areas, and the annual lapanje kokota ceremony is a re-enactment of an old fertility rite that's supposed to ensure a bountiful harvest.
Ironically, the Sorbs thrived under East Germany's communist regime, which was keen to demonstrate solidarity with the Slavic countries of the Soviet bloc by recognizing the Sorb language, subsidizing Sorb media and sponsoring cultural festivals.
All politically oriented Sorb organizations had to toe the party line, and dozens of Sorb villages were razed for the strip-mining of lignite, a brown coal that's plentiful in the region.

What is SORBS? - A Word Definition From the Webopedia Computer Dictionary
SORBS was originally an anti-spam project where a daemon would check, in real time, all servers from which it received e-mail to determine if that e-mail was sent via various types of proxy and open-relay servers.
SORBS has evolved into SORBS DNSbl (DNS-based fllist) which now includes more than 3 million listed hosts that are considered to be compromised (Web servers which have vulnerabilities that can be used by spammers).
The Spam and Open Relay Blocking System (SORBS) was conceived as an anti-spam project where a daemon would check "on-the-fly", all servers from which it received email to determine if that email was sent via various types of proxy and open-relay servers.

However, SORBS not telling the ISP where the donation can or will be sent is NOT true nor is it a "large sum" relative to an ISP.
It is easier that they attempt to disparage the SORBS list and tell their customers that if there is a problem, "the list is unreliable and incredulous and ISPs really should not use it".

It began a while back with SORBS' demand for charitable donations to be made in order for a listed entity to be removed from the sorbs.spam list.
Lately, however, sorbs has added a good amount of hoop-jumping to their delisting procedure and has, by a few reports, become selectively unresponsive to valid delisting requests.
Overall, it looks as though their listing/delisting criteria is becoming more and more based on personal rather than purely technical reasons, which to me means that the overall integrity of the lists has been compromised, making them unreliable and useless.
