Game Over Online Magazine - Simon the Sorcerer Pinball
The gaming season, in general, seems to be slowing down again as the mad rush of games in the festive season draws to a close.
The basic idea behind a pinball game (for those poor unfortunate souls out there who have missed out on the better years of their childhood down at the local arcade) is to bounce a silver ball around a box of whirling lights and loud sounds, trying to get as many points as possible.
This particular game, however, is not a part of the ongoing series of Simon the Sorcerer games, though it relates to the two originals by using the characters.

Guardian Unlimited | Special reports | Why Hollywood and the computer games industry are getting together
The development cost of a top game title is unlikely to exceed £3-4m, but with each unit selling at up to £40 and the games market in the US alone totalling 225m units, the attractions of a film/game marriage is clear.
Games can't yet compete with film when it comes to character development, dialogue or the more complex aspects of the story line, so a game like Spider-Man focuses on the action.
It's not the first time that a computer game has been made into a movie; Lara Croft was converted from computer graphic to screen goddess in Tomb Raider, and Resident Evil crept its way into cinemas this summer.

Sorcerer is the second game in the Enchanter trilogy.
Sorcerer is basically a dungeon crawl, with little plot beyond the setup and the conclusion.
Sorcerer is not a great game, but it is a fairly quick, enjoyable romp.

Let us then build up a workable definition from these clauses: The computer game, then, is an activity taking place on the basis of formally defined rules, containing an evaluation of the efforts of the player and the story of which differs from player to player.
Safety in a computer game implies both the players literal safety from the violence in the game and the apparent distance from the rest of the world while playing.
And though unlike computer games in that they tell just one story at a time, they are similar because they contain numerous other potential narratives.

In computing, an interactive tool developed by Microsoft that ‘talks’ program users through a complex operation, such as creating a template or a presentation.
The wizard presents the user with a series of dialog boxes asking simple questions in ordinary language, which the user answers by choosing radio buttons, checking boxes, and entering information by keyboard.

Third person games are often a bit tricky because the camera needs to be particularly smart about how to keep the action on screen while maintaining a relatively fixed position in relation to the player.
Overall the game mimics other third person games, mixing small combat skirmishes with puzzle solving and platform-jumping, but doesn't particularly resonate as anything special in the world of computer games.
Cut scenes are rendered in the game engine as well and, unlike some other games which use the game engine to tell their story, animation, facial expression, lip syncing and character mannerisms are captured quite well.

 Simon the Sorcerer 3D review
The history of this game is a bit of a sad tale in gaming history and one that makes one wonder why anyone in their right mind would ever develop adventure games for a living.
In this game - Simon will be faced with new challenges, meet old allies (most of whom he'd rather forget) and try to defeat Sordid or if not that at least save the universe and perhaps find his way back home at last.
The characters in the Simon games, as with the Monkey Island series, are a large part of their attractiveness to me as a gamer.

Although you lose some of the characteristics that the woodland brought to the game (like the animated creatures and the rocks with faces), it makes the game a lot easier to navigate.
The longevity of Simon 2 is definitely a credit to the game; a seasoned adventure gamer that had never seen it before would have trouble finishing this in under 20 hours of play.
I suppose with a more grown-up game you have to expect Simon to grow up as well; after all, it’s almost two years since the teenage wannabe sorcerer hit our computer screens and puberty can be an ugly thing.

The 11th Hour Web Magazine - Features - Extreme Doing Nothing
Computer game designers really hit their peak when they created the wonder that is this ever-enchanting puzzle, and it's all been pointless from there on.
There are also these newfangled Simulation Games, Strategy Games, Action and Adventure Games, which, while their credibility may not be called into question by a resemblance to Space Invaders at all, do make the impossible claim to somehow take you to the edge of reality, and even beyond.
But these games, with their often idiotic premises, violent under-, over- and in-between-tones, and patent lack of anything even approaching redeeming value, often seem little more than ways in which to spend huge chunks of time not doing very much at all.

What helps make this joke funny is the fact the game designer has being doing his darndest up to that point to make you forget that you are playing a computer game.

I'm sure this game is great for younger players, but if they've had a lot of experience with this type of game it might not be much of a challenge.
